4 Key Points to REALLY Disrupt Education | Shiv Tandan

Building a scalable, sustainable disruptive business in education can be trickier than it seems. While the innovations needed are clear and the pain points are almost obvious, breaking into the market can be very challenging due to these features of the traditional school model. Here’s my four step framework (PATT) to help you assess your idea.
P: Prestige: Despite a dated curriculum and outdated teaching methods, a big name school’s stamp still carries a lot of weight. Can your business create that sense of prestige around it?
A: Awareness: while parents might know something is wrong, they often can’t put their finger on it. Making them understand that the structural set up of a school is what is causing children to lose their curiosity and creativity is still a difficult hill to climb.
T: Trust: schools have built an aura of trustworthiness around themselves through associations, collaborations, affiliations, and certifications. If you want to disrupt mainstream education, what kind of associations and partnerships can you target to build trust?
T: Time: Even if your app is amazing or AI chatbot is incredible, parents are busy these days and cannot just sit and teach their children all day. Like it or not, your idea, needs to be as convenient and safe as a school is so that you don’t demand additional effort. Even if you crack some super users in the initial months and years, true scale cannot be achieved unless you create an equal or higher level of convenience than traditional schools.
