Elements of DAX 06-12 Override and Current Row Filtering

For new practitioners, one tends to think of using Revisers for either Current Row Filtering (Context Transition) or Override Filtering but not both. Since each on its own is tricky enough to wrap one's head around, it usually is best to think about them and practice them independently. However, the two routinely work together and being able to visualize this is critical to diagnosing common DAX problems. In particular, the order in which the two types of Filter get added can have big consequences that can be hard to spot. In this video, Brian Grant will show you visually what happens when both of these are used in concert. This will help you visualize what's happening in your own code out in the wild.

Hi Brian, if you replace the All(Mini[Type]) with the Values[Type] and say you have an existing filter context for example Dish = Salad, that Values[Type] will be evaluated right?

Fantastic to have this level of detail. I was wondering what if row filter and override filter work over the same column and they are opposite; which one prevails?

Love this video series!! So grateful that you have taken the time to put it together in a format that makes understanding it a lot simpler. Is there a way to get a hold of the PowerPivot and PBIX files that accompany your videos?
