Thank you for this video. You saved my day. I got a Honda Pilot SUV and I tried to install that rear camera. Your video showed a quick and easy way to install the rear camera instead of installing near the license plate. Thank you.

I've got a similar style dash cam that'll be installing and I never though about mounting on the trim itself. Great idea 👍

Excellent tips! Also, I have a lot of cable left over. I started from the rear hatch (before mounting) and then ran it up to the front dash. Like you, I took a front panel off and stuffed the remained cable in the space. Lastly, I hard wired both the dash cam and my radar detector to the fuse box. (I think the kit is 20 bucks on a famous website. Well worth it in my opinion.

If only automakers fit them for you, no one would have to go through these troubles

Some good points there just as about to do an install, or at least have an install done. Several " Specialists", including those on YouTube, all want to place the rear cam on the window. With defogging and tint, the front window is a thing too then, obviously. Lucky I cam across your video. Thanks.

I don't have your car but my KIA has that same center console so I'm doing the same as you. Awesome idea. Thanks for the video.

I recommend starting from the rear dash camera and work your way up to the front

I'm toying with the idea of mounting a full time back camera to see behind at any given moment. I'll be using the 12v outlet in my rear cargo area, of course, it has to be wireless unit . I need to mount it higher up than a normal backup camera. I'm considering the auto vox 7pro. This would also help when I'm carrying extra gear in an external basket which would block a normally positioned backup camera.

Inside that console if you take it out and have a small round file. File a small half circle at the bottom of the plastic and will be easier and tidy.

Did you use adhesive tape to mount the camera to the back of the tailgate?

I have experienced that mounting rear camera on the vinyl trim board will fail in a very short time due to gravity and bouncing. The double-stick tape will give way, especially during very hot or very cold weather. I have not found a quality double-stick tape that works.

This is exact place I have mounted my to guard mirror dash cam. It does work in this place as at night time it’s lights up, but glares on the back window

Curious as to why you didn’t hard wire it to your fuse panel?

wire is still exposed. it could have routed through the gromet.

If it's a *dash* cam it's not a rear cam. And no I'm not fun at parties 😂
