American journalism is so polarised that Ben automatically presumed that Andrew Neil was from the " other team " and immediately went into attack mode. Andrew Neil, despite being right wing, is the consummate professional journalist and treats everyone the same. American media could learn a lot from him.

It's so funny that Ben had no idea that he was talking to a bigger conservative than himself

He actually did ask questions about the book and the big reason why Andrew brought up Ben's old tweets was because they were completely inconsistent with some of his messages in the book. Ben spoke in the book about the tensions and the anger between people on both sides, without ever acknowledging that he himself had been fueling the fire. Ben was an hypocrite and Andrew Neil pointed it out.

I like how Ben tries to admit fault, but still can’t comprehend that these questions weren’t unfair. He keeps saying “Andrew never asked me a single question about my book.” Yes he did. Many times. He contrasted the statements in Ben’s book about being too angry with each other, with incendiary language that Ben uses to fuel the fire. He pointed out that Ben is a hypocrite, and Ben still doesn’t understand that, years later.

Who cares if the interviewer is on the left or right? That’s the baked-in problem.

Those kind of interviews are normal anywhere outside of the US, it's called journalism.

As a Brit, it's hard to convey how funny and silly he looked calling the chairman of The Spectator a leftist. For context that's like calling Steve Bannon woke.

Andrew Neil is your worst nightmare whichever side of the fence you are. He's a rare talent in Britain, and unique among American political interviewers.
He's solely there to put you on the rack, but is more than willing to concede ground if the answers stack up. He's always well prepared and knows his quarry inside and out.
When you spend your days debating college kids and morons, you're not ready for that kind of hassle.

'I don't know anything about the BBC' come on now 😂😂😂

The only thing Ben seems to care about is what “side” the interviewer was on. This is basically all we need to know about Shapiro - that’s some big brain thinking right there.

Truth is Andrew isn't an easy guy to debate. He's very clever and logical.

America is a little too obsessed with good and bad, right and wrong, and no-one seems to be able to consider that their opinions and values do not need to be set in stone. Debating should be positive, healthy, and in the spirit of growth. Not aggressive and divisive as we see today.

He went on BBC expecting them to advertise his book 😂

It should be law that every politician, commentator and activist have to face Andrew Neil once a year

"didn't get a lot of sleep the night before" 😅😅😅 so much for owning it

So basically he thinks his main mistake is assuming he was on the left?
So he's learned absolutely nothing. None of these factors should've influenced at all how he conducts himself in such an interview. Otherwise you have the completely wrong goal. If you behave differently towards someone just because of a political category you're one of the people dividing us.

The beautiful part about that interview is that it's still proving Neil's point. 😂

So if Andrew was in fact on the left, you would be justified in refusing to answer a single and attacking him, but the exact same question from someone on the right is ok?

Yes. It was a great interview. When a heavyweight meets a lightweight things get messy. What I took from it was, if a person talks with speed and is not checking theirs or the listeners understanding then the chances are they are an intellectual lightweight and have inferiority issues.
