free online multiplayer, variety of games, basically a wii and many other consoles at the same time, and the console actually had personality

the Wii U was the first console I bought on launch year
I will admit that thing felt more magical than the Switch.

I love how every track of the Wii U OST has a gamepad version and a TV version that sound good when you play them individually but when you combine them they sound even better like an orchestra.

I hope the miis come back stronger and better than ever. They made the games so much more immersive and personalized.

One MASSIVE thing you didn't mention:
The motion controls were more sensitive and accurate for the Wii u. If you play Splatoon on the Wii u and then play Splatoon on the switch, you will know exactly what I mean. Night and day difference.

Also, the Wii u feels much better and more ergonomic to hold and play with.

Looking back at this, you got it brodigy. You got majority of this stuff nailed in the hole or predicted for even more future things even after the switch 2 announcement.

I swear the only reason the Wii U flopped was how they marketed it and branded it.

And considering the Wii was their #1 console at the time people didn't need one nor were they completely sure what the Wii U was about.

If there is a successor to the Switch, DO NOT call it the Switch U

The funny thing about the internet browser - Nintendo could do that easily. They just need to make an app that wraps the existing browser code. Yup - the Switch has the code for a browser already on it. It's used for establishing WiFi connections at places that make you go through a web page, and it's used for the eShop. You can actually use it for browsing via some tricky DNS redirection. So all the basics are there, they just need to wrap it up in an app.

I bought a Wii U in 2014 and I really have fond memories of it. It was a great console

The Wii U made my childhood happen. If it weren’t for Mario U, Nintendo Land, and Kart 8, I probably wouldn’t be here.

They better bring Nintendo Land back—arguably the best party game Nintendo came up with.

The Wii U died so the Switch could live on its games

I think the Switch was kind of rushed out. The Wii U was such a failure for Nintendo that they needed a new console to get them out of their rut as soon as possible. That would explain why the Switch has a lot less personality; there was no time to add that in before launch.

If the Switch 2 doesn't have at least a _little_ more personality, then there are gonna be questions.

Nintendo probably removed the internet browser out of spite. Because the internet browser was used to hack the Wii U.

One thing I miss is the stylus. As well as the duel screen mechanics. The Wii U was a great system for artists because of that.

The Wii U was my favorite console. Better than the Switch imo. Why? Because of the games.
For Legend of Zelda we could play Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild.
We had Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, and so many other amazing games.
Also the online features were amazing.

I think the main problem with the Wii U is that everyone thought it was Nintendo's attempt to replace the Wii --- which is irreplaceable in our hearts, especially back when the Wii U first launched.
Seems like an alright console on its own, or if it were clearly a Wii accessory working alongside the main Wii console, but I had no clue how to think of it except disappointment that the Wii was losing support.

I think the ideal virtual console situation is to offer the games to purchase separately for non members, but have it so members can download and play any VC game with no additional costs. This is what a lot of us wanted back in the Wii U generation and I think it makes the most sense.
