What are YOU working on?
Optima YellowTop Battery Revival

What are we doing today?
After leaving the lights on, both OPTIMA Batteries are fully DISCHARDED. We try to revive them in this video without ruining them.

What are we using to complete the work?
flashlight
battery charger
extension cord

Do you have any concerns about today's work?
Just hoping these expensive Optima batteries aren't ruined.

Why did you decide to do this?
Because a guy left the lights on.

What's your favorite thing about this work?
We hope this video helps encourage you to start or continue working on whatever project you've got sitting around. We hope you have a great day. We appreciate our subscribers and viewers. A BIG THANKS to each of you. Remember, this is something YOU CAN DO so REACH OUT with QUESTIONS and don't be afraid of starting-continuing-finishing the work your project needs.

We enjoy engaging with our 2stallgarage family. Thank you for watching today and God bless.

What would you improve, if anything?
I would have turned the lights off. :)

Any additional thoughts?
We complete work in a small 2 stall garage with limited space. You can do anything you would like to do, no matter the space you have, just plan accordingly and adjust your plans to the size of your workspace. We Believe In YOU!

What's coming to the shop in the future?
LATEST Honda BIG RED Video!

Are you able to do lots of work in a limited space?
Yes, without question. The biggest issues we face in our 2stallgarage is organization. Keeping the workspace organized and both stalls clear of clutter really helps with motivation, which then helps with productivity. Basically, if I see a clean workspace, I'm much more ready to dive into a project or even just scheduled maintenance like today's oil change.

Thanks for choosing OPTIMA Batteries (our batteries are AGM, not “gel” batteries). Fully-charged, your YELLOWTOPs will measure about 13.0-13.2 volts. We don't recommend a charge rate that exceeds 10 amps for safety reasons. We don't know anything about your charger other than the rate you chose (30 amps) and the time you chose for charging (130 minutes).

Our D34/78 YELLOWTOP is a 55Ah battery (110 for two batteries), so if your charger operated at 100% efficiency, it would deliver more than 60 amps in 130 minutes. If your batteries were discharged just enough to prevent the truck from starting and the charger was 100% efficient, it could've resulted in a dangerous overcharging situation. Fortunately, most chargers do not operate at 100% efficiency and your batteries sounded like they were completely discharged.

We also heard you mention that one of the batteries was from 2013. We don't know if that means the other one is not the same age, but whenever multiple batteries are installed in the same application (in parallel or series), they should be identical in age, size and type. As batteries age, their internal resistance increases, which makes it harder for them to accept and deliver current. As a result, if you use two batteries of different ages, one may charge faster than the other. When the newer battery is fully-charged, it can become overcharged, as the other battery is still accepting current. The same thing can happen with batteries of different sizes and types (flooded vs AGM).

I have two Optima red tops that are are 10 & 11 years old. One still works great and the other has a bad cell but it will still start the car on a warm day.

Both Optima and Everstart batteries are made by Johnson Control. Ill keep buying Everstart and save money. They really are excellent batteries.

I paid $50 for a red top that had never been used. Was couple years old already when I got it. Threw it on my car and it fired up. Hardly drove the car and battery stayed good up until few months ago. It'll jump off and run but won't hold a charge. Now of a battery that's several years old never charged and works that good I'd have to say they are worth the $ imo. If I could gave afford another I'd bought one in a heart beat.

I ALWAYS get a minimum of 8 years service out of my optima's in my boats. I just acquired my Dad's boat about 7 months ago and the blue top trolling motor batteries in it I just replaced. The batteries that were in it I bought for him 13 years ago. Yes I said 13 years ago. They were getting tired but they were still working. So my question to the lithium crowd why spend a bunch of money on those that last 10 years when you can get optima's for $300 each that last 8+ years. For me it's a no brainier. Your welcome.

My new red top died after two months. Optima quality really went downhill. Used to be great batteries. No response from Optima for warranty.

No no no! When they were made in Denver they would last 10yrs. If you are in cold weather go with any east penn made AGM. If you have massive power drains go with X2
