Gay couples exist just like straight couples exist. You don’t have to explain the mechanics of sex to a little kid to justify the existence of couples. If the filmakers don’t think of gay couples as being inherently wrong, there’s no reason to not have a gay couple in a movie. Same for having non white characters. If you consider where these films tend to be made, that’s what people look like when you walk around day to day. There’s a lot of diversity in these areas and there’s plenty of gay people. It would actually be more abnormal to not have diversity in the films you make when you see diversity everyday where you live.

If a kid can understand what a straight couple is without knowing anything about sex, they can understand an lgbt one without knowing about sex. Gay couples are almost exactly the same as straight couples, the only difference being the genders. Think about it this way; imagine an alternate universe where being gay is normalized and being straight isn't. Wouldn't you find it a little strange that people won't accept heterosexuality simply because the kids don't need to learn about sex yet? A relationship, no matter the sexuality, isn't completely about sex. It's also about being in love and spending time together, telling eachother how much you care, ect. Showing a gay couple in a kids movie is no different from showing a straight one, the only difference being that it shows a less normalized thing. It needs to be normalized though. A lot of things need to be. The world just isn't ready for complete equality yet, but we need to push it to that point. Anyways, sorry about the long post, I just hope it helped either change the mind of a misinformed person, or helped someone who is lgbt feel safer and like they fit in better. Have a good day.
