Boeing Starliner New Big Trouble: Can't Undock, Stuck in Space Forever!
The longer the Boeing Star liner stays in space, the less likely it is to RETURN.
This is understandable for a vehicle that is inherently riddled with potential problems like the Star liner.
In addition to helium leaks and thruster failures, NASA recently discovered ANOTHER PROBLEM with the vehicle related to flight software.
This new issue contributes to a NIGHTMARE for the agency, affecting not only the Star liner's ability to return, and the safety of astronauts, but also derailing NASA's rigorous internal schedule.
Find out everything in today's Techmap episode.
But before we begin, let's subscribe to the channel to stay up-to-date with the latest space news.
Boeing Starliner New Big Trouble: Can't Undock, Stuck in Space Forever!
On June 1, SpaceX announced Starship Flight 4 would be delayed from June 5 to 6 for unknown reasons.
It's a coincidence that Boeing Star liner's crew flight test would launch on June 5. This raises a big question about the connection between the two events: Is Starship delayed because of the Star liner launch?
More than two months later when Star liner is about to end its mission, another delay on SpaceX's vehicle likely happens. The unfortunate vehicle this time is the Dragon spacecraft that is going to be part of the Crew 9 mission. Some sources said that Nasa is planning to significantly slip Crew 9 from August 18 to September 24 due to the ongoing issues on the stranded Star liner.
As of August 6, the Boeing Star liner has been in space for over two months. Meanwhile, Nasa management has still been in deep discussion about whether to call for an alternative craft, SpaceX Dragon to rescue the crew or let the misfiring Star liner capsule do it as usual.
Boeing Starliner New Big Trouble: Can't Undock, Stuck in Space Forever!
Boeing's spacecraft showed a lack of reliability before launch, as a small helium leak was detected in the spacecraft’s service module. Helium is used in spacecraft thruster systems to allow the thrusters to fire and is not combustible or toxic.
Worse, on the way to ISS, multiple of the spacecraft’s thrusters failed and then delayed its docking time. These smaller thrusters are used as the spacecraft moves closer to the space station so it can make more finely tuned changes to its trajectory.
The spacecraft eventually docked successfully with the space station, but to ensure a safe return, engineers had to address ongoing issues aboard the Star liner.
After conducting a series of tests and analyses, including two docked hot fire tests and 1 ground test, the team may have found the root cause of the helium leak. However, they have not identified yet a root cause for why multiple of the spacecraft’s thrusters failed during docking.
Recently, a much more terrible thing has been found: current flight software on board Star liner cannot perform an automated undocking from the space station and entry into Earth’s atmosphere. This would seriously affect Star liner's ability to return, which is what the agency is most concerned about.
The solution here is to update flight software, a process that is deemed to be significant and non-trivial. They could take up to four weeks to do that, and then, the following mission, Crew 9 will be delayed. As a result, Nasa’s internal schedule will be messed up.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this Cape Canaveral site
Aboard this tiny starliner ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing gal,
The skipper brave and sure.
Two passengers set sail that day
For an eight-day tour, an 8-day tour.

The ship's systems started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The starliner would be lost, and the starliner would be lost.

The ship is stuck on ISS
With Butch
and Suni too,
and they are gonna be stuck there for
at least 8 months more,
at least 8 months more

Give SpaceX a contract to build something to remove and safely de-orbit Starliner, then use a Dragon capsule to rescue the astronauts.

The problem of Strandedliner in the space is due to those smart people in Boeing are imprisoned by management system and Politic.

Boeing's SS Minnow needs to be abandoned and left as space junk! SpaceX can rescue them and we can get back to some semblance of normal! Peace

This technology is so sixties. Yet Boeing can’t put a manned spacecraft into orbit without having technical problems.

The FAA grounded Spaace X for fifteen technical problems but allowed Boeing to launch unchecked with a hydrogen leak .

JUST IMAGINE, they have to form a committee to consider what to do before actually doing anything.

I find it inconceivable that Boeing does not have a complete program for auto docking and auto undocking and return of the Starliner from the International Space Station. SpaceX has such programs and reentry profiles preprogrammed into their Crew Dragon spacecraft, and, has proven the accuracy and precision of this programming previously.

While Boeing was granted almost twice the development and testing budget than was SpaceX, it is SpaceX that has consistently outperformed the requirements from NASA for a safe and reliable spacecraft and rocket system. Maybe Boeing can purchase a ride from SpaceX to bring the NASA astronauts back home safely.

China is going to die laughing if this continues 😂

Sad to say but I have the terrible feeling that this was one too many mission for those 2 astronauts.

A desperate act by Boeing, they should have scrubbed it and gone back to the drawing board.

This whole project has been an unmitigated disaster from start to finish. Problems & delays just getting this damned thing off the ground in the first place. Problems up to & including launch & now two astronauts stuck in space because let's face it, they're stuck up there right now. My biggest fear is the return journey. I can see a disaster waiting to happen, so I would go with Space X to bring them back. No way in hell I'd step foot in that Starliner capsule.

There should be some serious questions on why Boeing changed the software from the original mission to the first manned mission. Why wouldn't they just fly with the same software on both missions?

Basically, Boeing undercut the competition in order to get the contract, thinking they could pistol whip this into production. Now they are having to pay the development costs themselves. Let them lose.

Learn from your mistakes most important bring the flight crew home safely forget pride

Imagine if Boeing had started uploading the software to return to Earth 4 weeks ago. They need to unbolt StarLeaker and psh it of, or else they have just Bork’s docking port.

In 1966 at the Los Angele County fair the US Marines had a Disney type ride that looked like a segment of a Starship.
The Marines said someday Marines will travel anywhere on earth in a matter of minutes.

LOL, Indian engineers in Boeing will certainly make Starliner act as all other Indian stuffs.

Hasn’t it been announced that Starliner is viable as a manned spacecraft for up to 3 months, 90 days on-orbit? What do the flight safety rules say about sustaining the spacecraft beyond 90 days in space? How are propellants and batteries and other consumables refreshed in space?

The return flight infers, Loss of face with no crew on board WOW SAFETY FIRST if it arrives safely that proves its safe function. PERIOD
