It's 2005, my parents and I just hit up Nebraska Furniture Mart and packed up everything we could carry in the van. It's dark, windy, and wet, and I'm tired, but it's ok. I can lay back, close my eyes, and listen to my parents talk about things I don't care about.

The sound of dad's car shutting off as he wakes me up in the driveway and says, "we're home" was always a disappointment. However, walking into the warm house and smelling mom's freshly baked chocolate chip cookies would trigger more dopamine in my brain! I miss my parents and the warm times we had with my siblings when we were all young. Thank you, this is magical! 👍 😌

To think my best memories were the long car rides back and forth between counties to visit my father, listening to the rain as I had zero troubles or fears.
I couldn’t care less back then, I’d think of everything I could, imagine animals running beside the car with me, think the moon was following me, imagine little men in the street lights running around and turning the lights to different colors or seeing which rain drop would win before falling asleep to the sound of rain, or the radio playing quiet music or even my dad talking to someone beside him.
I never know how much I would miss it. But I do.
I can’t get that back. It will never be the same, and damn, does that suck.

My friend used to drive me out to Osaka bay whenever it rained just to park somewhere and sit, talking with our drinks in hand. I got really sick all of a sudden and as soon as I recovered after years in hospital I drove out to Osaka bay. There she was, waiting. We cried and laughed, it was the most peaceful moment of my life

When I was a kid we didn't have intermittent wipers. We had two speed; ON and OFF. You turned them on and they would go at a steady back and forth, back and forth, back and forth rhythm that would sooth you down, and if your dad was listening to a baseball game on the AM radio you could hear the announcer telling you what was going on in the ball park. You would be in the back seat, or even resting on the floor of the car, and maybe the heater would be going. Everything was right with the world because dad was driving, he was taking you home, and you were safe and warm.

This brings back fond memories of being in the car with my parents and driving on the motorway to get home from a two week trip to Cornwall. The engine sounds, the rain on the windshield and the sound of the wipers are soothing and nostalgic.

The lights are amazing! Look how they blur and bleed into other colors, creating more light reflection off the wet windshield, and then wiped away only to reappear 2 seconds later. The sound of REAL rain and no music. A car zooming by every now and then. This is strangely intoxicating and nostalgic! I love it!

I remember around 2007/2008 my dad would drive me home from school on a Thursday because I had an extra activities after school. The night sky, the rain are so familiar. Good memories, I miss being young.

It's 2015, my parents are driving me and my siblings home after a party at my aunts house. We drive home sometime around 8:30 or 9:00, getting something to eat from Wendy's or McDonald's, then talking about things that happened at the party until one of us fell asleep. Then, it started raining. I looked out the window and came up with some story in my head. Some of my characters were running beside the car or flying beside it, laughing and waving at me. I fall asleep, only to wake up on the last turn to my neighborhood. My brother wakes up too but we pretended we were still asleep. My mom is carrying me annd my dad carries my brother. We get put in our room and never opened our eyes until morning.
How simple everything must have been for me to never know it until now.

This reminds me of travelling to holiday destinations around the UK in the eighties. We had a Ford Cortina estate car. Mum up front with dad driving through the night. My three older sisters in the rear seat with me and the dog curled up in the back with the luggage. I can remember peering out the window for hours looking at the lights of the towns and cities we passed on the motorway trying to imagine the people who lived there before finally falling asleep to the sound of the rain and wipers. Good times.
