I was the third child of my family and according to my parents, I was a complete surprise. My mom didn't know she was pregnant with me until 6 months in. My family was worried how to financially make it work. Fortunately my father at the time worked at the US Embassy in Norway and got qualified for Norway's healthcare while we were temporally living there. This included a nine month paid maternal leave and a six month paid paternal leave. My parents outright said we probably would have lost our house in the US if it wasn't for that paid leave.

I don't care if you're a liberal and a conservative. Both side should be able to agree on this issue of allowing parents time to be parents for their baby.

The USA is the only nation in the developed world that doesn't have a legally required paid leave for parents, and even many developing nations have them. We're so behind.
