Day after Boxing day, woke up to the sound of breathing. My quest 3 fan was pulsing away on its own and I knew something was wrong as the charging light wasn't on. When I tried to use it, it was fully dead. I followed Metas suggestions to reset it but nothing happened. When I contacted customer support they told me my warranty had expired and that I had activated it on 27 nov 2023. I proved, using my Amazon account order details, that I hadn't even ordered it till 18 Dec 2023 and first activation was Boxing day exactly 1 year ago. Then they tried to charge me £320 for a replacement. After many emails, and 6 different agents, I have now sent it back and am now waiting for a refurbed replacement. Great Xmas.

I bought meta quest 3s 2weeks ago and it stopped working after update and i had it returned and today my new one returned and works perfectly fine

This is why an unlocked bootloader imo is essential. Everyone would have been able to fix their own devices

Thanks for the information. I had a friend who apparently picked the wrong time to want to play his Quest 2. He pulled it out on December 10th after probably not using it for more than 2 years and the update bricked it. I didn't know at the time that was what happened but I saw your video and told him about it.

Currently waiting on my factory warranty replacement for my Quest 3 I picked up in July. Played all day Saturday and Sunday last weekend, bricked on Monday.

When I first updated my unit, a few months ago, it was stuck in "Updating" for hours and kept doing that for weeks. Eventually fixed itself, but felt like a close call.

not to mention that the pro controllers are no longer functional on the quest 2, 3 and 3s if they were purchased after v70 released

Hey Jay, I hope you had a good holiday. In talking about the bricked headset situation, my experience was that for the first time ever, my headset was updated to version 72 without me doing anything manually to make it happen, and I never had this happen before. Having said that, I have been using my Quest 3 headset a lot more in the last couple of months. At least 3 times a week for some time. I also have every update on schedule, so maybe that helped me as my headset is still going strong. Before, I always had to start the update to make it happen, but this time, I noticed the interface looked different when my headset first booted up and especially how the settings menu looked different. That's when I saw my Quest had updated to version 72. That was interesting to me. Anyway, I am still loving your news updates on the Quest and VR in general. I can feel 100, 000 subscribers coming real soon. Take care 😊🥰🤩.

Before I get the Q3, I'll wait until they fix this issue. These things are too expensive to get a refurbished replacement.

No issues here with any of my devices, both the S3, 3 and 2 (the latter isn’t updated regularly) so I wonder if it’s whining or a real issue.

Might even be related to their network, heard some issues where the Wi-Fi got disconnected during downloading an update, let’s just see how and what.

I got my 3S for this christmas but thankfully they didnt break, just after seeing this was happening my heart dropped and had to check that it was auto updated but no issues

I got a Quest 3 for Christmas last year and only used it once. I have more free time now, so I want to play, but I heard about this bug. So I'm holding off turning it on until there's an official fix from Meta

I played my q3 before Xmas but now I’m scared to even power it on. If I get FKD on a 4 month old quest (I paid the 650$ for mine right before the price Drop) I’ll come after them Trust me. Either they give me a new one or I’m showing up Personally at Meta

Ok so I got Meta Quest pro controllers for Christmas i tried to pair it just showed 0 percent update so i factory reset now i cant press anything

Dang it, I was using the headset like 2 days ago and panic checked now to see that v72 has been installed on 12-24-2024. Tried using my product serial on their website, and it says it is not affected and at this point i'm afraid to use as I am not from the US and most likely won't get sent replacement unit if it decides to go bork
