For me sky and breath was a 4 star book with a 5 star ending. I just felt like there was so much going on and I only felt emotionally connected to like 2 out of 4 of the plot lines

Personally, I think you'll really enjoy The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. I think the romance in that one (which is a fairly large focus of the book) will be one that's right up your alley. The second book in the Inheritance trilogy (THTK is the first book), The Broken Kingdoms, is my favorite book of all time, but I can't necessarily say whether you'll connect to it as heavily and strongly as I did, as I'm entirely too biased, as it's been my favorite since I read it for the first time in 2013 (god....how has it been nearly a decade already 😭). (Bc personally, I enjoyed THTK, but I didn't love it, and TBK absolutely blew me away; however, you and I seem to have quite different tastes in reading, at least when it comes to romance, so I think it's likely that you might enjoy the main relationship in THTK more, whereas for me, the main relationship in TBK was vastly superior XD). The last book, The Kingdom of Gods, was the weakest one in the trilogy for me, but bc of the way the series is structured, it didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the trilogy, or detract anything from the previous books. It wasn't bad, I just didn't connect to it anywhere near as much as the first two books. (Tho as a heads up, if you end up loving TBK, the coda "Not the End" at the end of TKoG is a MUST READ, and honestly makes the rest of TKoG worth it XP) I'm planning to do a reread of the trilogy this year, so it'll be interesting to see if my perspectives on the other books change, bc while I've reread TBK multiple times, I've only read the first and third books just once each. XD

The Broken Earth trilogy (of which The Fifth Season is the first book) is well lauded for a reason, and I would recommend at least trying it even if the rest of Jemisin's books don't end up being for you. I've only read this series and her Inheritance trilogy (not Dreamblood or her new series), so I can't say for 100% certainty, but based on my own experiences with her books and what you had to say about Dreamblood, I think Broken Earth is her most consistent series when it comes to maintaining high quality, and I gave all 3 books in it 5 stars (tho The Broken Kingdoms still remains my favorite XP).

Great wrap up! I felt the same, I preferred House of Earth and Blood but still enjoyed Sky and Breath 😃

I am very interested in some of those books that you really liked! Although to be honest, I think I have a different taste in books than you do. It does make me nervous to read some of the books that you really liked because of that. 😬 I just want to love them as much as you do! My little sister says her taste in books lines up really well with yours though. I really want to see what your opinion of some of her favorite novels is. She loves The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner (which I know you have the first book to), Dark Lord of Derkholm duology by Diana Wynne Jones (I know you enjoyed Howl's Moving Castle), and (well I already know you love this one) the Red Rising Trilogy.💛

So I really love NK Jemisin. The 100 thousand kingdoms was good. But her broken earth trilogy was perfection. There is a reason each book won a Hugo. It’s so well crafted, and the magic is much more tangible.
I’ve started her latest series and I’m enjoying it and looking forward to the second one.

The series you read (lol I can’t even remember the name of the Duology) just wasn’t great. I struggled through the first one. And I own the second one but idk when I’ll ever get to it.

So yes pls don’t discount her work!!!

Given how huge those Maas books are I'm impressive with how much you were able to read!

Do you think it’s important to have read ACOTAR before reading HoSaB? I sadly think I may have stumbled on some spoilers and I’m wondering if I’ll get more out of it if I read the ACOTAR series but I’ve only read the first book in that series so far.

Love your channel so much btw! ❤️

I gave Sky and Breath 3 stars. Too many plotlines going on, the characters has turned more shallow somehow, and honeslty... the ending made me angry. A letdown after I gabe Earth and Blood 5 stars and LOVED it.
