Install ARCH Linux 2023. THE foundation for your LINUX experiments. PLUS QTile Window Manager.

In this video I’ll show you how to install a base system of Arch Linux. The foundation for all of your upcoming Linux experiments.

It‘ll be the starting point for upcoming videos where I will cover and install several window managers and explain in detail how you can customize and configure your new Linux system.

I will install Arch Linux in a KVM (Qemu) and Virt-Manager based environment. But the installation guide will work in real hardware too.

I will install the latest version of Arch Linux with the official installation script provided with the Arch Linux ISO. With this guided installation really everyone should be able to install Arch Linux on a computer.

i did everything that you did, but after i reboot and enter arch 8:35 the screen freeze with one line written `dev/nvme1n1p2 ..`
what can i do to fix it? it's frustrating, and is it possible because i'm dual booting? i have two nvme m.2, one for windows and one for arch

Heads up for anyone using nvidia 4000 series. As of this comment, the nvidia drivers on the iso (they use the free drivers called nouveau) still doesn’t properly detect 4000 series nvidia GPUs. There might be a way to get it them working, or you can get the proprietary drivers (lots of guides for this).

If you have a cpu with an integrated gpu, you can also simply use the hdmi port from your motherboard during installation if you are not seeing anything after selecting “Arch Linux Install” and have an nvidia gpu.

Without a login manager such as lightdm, which unlocks the authentication agent, I have trouble getting polkit to authenticate my credentials when starting X from the terminal. In my .xinitrc for my dwm session.

That does, however, not automatically unlock the authentication agent. polkit, polkit-gnome and gnome-keyring are installed.

Perhaps you could make a video about your qtile xinit setup to help me (and potentially others) figure out where the problem lies. There you might show what you put in the different files responsible for an X session, starting with .xinitrc, .profile, .Xdefaults.

At least I finally figured out which files are needed to show my mouse-cursor-theme for all the frameqorks, gtk-2, gtk-3, qt5, qt6, etc.
