How Much Weight Can a Fly Actually Lift? Experiment—I Lassoed a Fly!

In this video I catch a fly and tie a string to it in order to measure how much weight it can lift! First I slow down their metabolism by cooling them down then I tie a string around it and attach duct tape weights to it in order to see how much it can lift! I was surprised how much it could lift!

A friend of mine and his friends, when they were about 10 years old, lassoed a few flies with 3-4 cm of threads and released them in the classroom just to annoy the teacher. He says nobody was listening to the lecture, they all watched the flies with smiles on their faces :) I don't think they chilled the flies or untied them later!
