Gilmore Girls Lane: Why she got the saddest ending 😢

Gilmore Girls' resident rocker rebel Lane Kim ended up with one of the most disappointing outcomes in the series. While she began the show with a buzzing love for music and lust for personal freedom, as the show went on and her character was pushed further to the side, so much of what made her Lane was sanded away. In recent years, as more people have begun re-watching show on streaming, a wider conversation has opened up about Lane’s bummer of an ending and how she deserved so much better – or at least the chance to have tried to live the life she dreamed of.

Not to mention that her first boyfriend was the best GG male character while her husband was one of the most annoying one and completely unstable for her.

Imo all the characters got equally disappointing outcomes, because this show went from a cozy small town wish fulfillment show to a lesson on the bitterness of reality

When she cries to Zack that she "never got to do it, " it broke my heart.

When she says she's never been her own person :/

The problem I had wasn’t that she got married and had a child, well children, it’s that she settled for just that, especially with who she settled with, the guy was annoying, I mean her reaction after coming back from the honeymoon always depressed me and to know she just gave in to her misery once she got pregnant is upsetting! She wanted a lot in life and it feels like she just settled for her mothers life which she did not want

Lane was the most interesting character for me. Her storyline grabbed my attention more than the GGs’.

They did betray Lane's character. She tried so hard to craft an independent, meaningful life for herself. Then she ends up married, and the eventual mother of twins. Unfair, and disappointing. Lane deserved bettet.

Lane and Zach should not have gotten married, should have used birth control, and taken off together with their band for their tour, as planned. Why have this character take such a downturn?

Zach only married lane to make things right for the band. I was just rewatching gilmore girls and when Brian asks, “what will happen when you guys get married?” Zach replied “we finally get to have (you know what)” and I just think that Dave would’ve actually married lane for herself

Lane was robbed. She deserved so much better. At least she rebounded by the reunion but still, to get pregnant on her first time! And the sex she had wasn’t all that, it was not great.

Ok theres a concept in screen writing for certain characters called a foil. I cant remember where Rory was at in her life when this happened but to me this is clear example to Rory of what her life could look like if she settled down early. If this was the part where her and Logan were together then this would have been a contributing factor to why Rory said no. Theres a lot of reasons why she said no, but this is one of them. Did they do Lane dirty, absolutely but it also highlights the reality of life and she made her peace with it.

Agreed, at first showing I really couldn’t describe my disappointment 😩

But are they really going to be able to film her living out her dream and touring the world? Also, this happens in the real world so I think it’s relatable, just how Rory was so promising but in “a year in the life of the Gilmore girls”, she didn’t have a job and was nowhere near where we all thought. Rory would be.

Hot take: Lane ended up HAPPY. Her mom mellowed out a lot and stepped up to help her and Zach get off on the right foot. And years down the line in AYITL, she and Zach were still happily married.

In Gilmore Girls, Lane is the more realistic counterpart to Rory, who the sun rose and set on, who had every opportunity, every connection, and every financial resource to make all her dreams come true. Everyone worshipped the ground Rory walked on. Lane was so much more relatable, IMO. There are over 1, 000, 000 drummers in the USA and they can’t all be John Bonham. Lane, like most of us, wasn’t well connected or wealthy, and no one thought she was special. Growing up is realizing that there is no such thing as a happy ending, but rather we can just make the best of the lot life hands us. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it shows life doesn’t go as planned

That is most people in life. Dreams don't always come true.

Lane was one of Gilmore Girls best characters

I actually like Lane's ending. She didn't necessarily get her dream of being a famous rock star. But it showed how her dream and priorities changed and she took that in stride.

I mean she did choose to get married. The pregnancy wasn't expected but it showed how much she loved her kids.

Zack was able to work with the band to have his family on tour with him. However, Lane decided it wasn't the right time with the twins. Yet, she could've done it.

I saw it as dreams postponed rather than abandoned forever

She is 30, it' s not an end! And it was very believable. She was very much better off than Rory.
