My grandfather worked for DuPont. Died of multiple brain tumors. Doctors said the only way the tumors he got were possible was due to extreme radiation exposure. After he died, DuPont told my grand mother if she attempted to sue, they'd withhold his retirement money.

Good people.

I live in the Netherlands where we have accessibility to drink water almost everywhere. And yet, my town had a river where dupont dumps their garbage and WE drink that water. It's so gross because the waterstandards here are super high but yet a big company like dupont has the right to pollute our drinking water without the government doing a single thing. Disgusting!

You could do an entire series on just DuPont. Teflon is just scratching the surface

Personal anecdote:

My uncle was a mechanical engineer for DuPont back in the 70s and early 80s, upgrading the production equipment in many of their manufacturing facilities. He openly cooperated with various investigations, but because his work was on the mechanical side of things - designing and upgrading the physical machines - he didn't really know anything useful to them. That said, being aware of the allegations and mounting evidence, he eventually decided to quit not only DuPont, but mechanical engineering altogether. At the age of 30, he applied to medical school and became an orthopedic surgeon (which, if you think about it, is just mechanical engineering on people).

Talk about Insulin and how the patent was sold for $1 to be free for everyone but drug companies got their greedy hands on it.

What's sad is the fact that most companies just set a budget to pay for violating environmental regulations, since it's just cheaper.

3 years ago. I worked for DuPont as a subcontractor doing sheet metal. The money was great because of rate work but the security was unbelievable and the rules they had were actually ridiculous. It’s sad what they did. It’s sad what a lot of businesses are doing. Some we don’t even know yet.

Companies like DuPont, Nestle and Monsanto perfectly embody the saying “making a deal with the devil”

None of this could happen without corrupt government.

We used to have a DuPont facility in my little town and they had a massive leak of sulfuric acid and something else that killed a bunch of people. I remember being young when it happened and looking out the windows and everything outside was obscured by a green cloudy mist. I remember my parents putting wet towels under all the doors and duct taping all the windows and vents closed to make our house as air tight as possible. It was a really scary experience, I will never forget it. Just another incident to add to the long list of evil deeds carried out by the diabolical DuPont corporation.

I have always been very wary of nonstick pans/teflon, primarily because you are not supposed to use them if you have a pet bird. Teflon releases fumes at high temperatures, and birds are very sensitive to toxic gases. That is why canaries were used in coal mines as an emergency air quality test. It's like they were saying "remember to remove your smoke detector before cooking anything with our grill".

You can actually create non stick pans by spreading a thin layer of vegetable oil(sunflower is one of the best for this) in a cast iron pan and putting in the oven for a 1 hour at 280 degrees celsius. You may need to repeat the process to get a more thick anti-adherent layer. It is non toxic and less expensive since you can remake the non-stick after starts to waste away

My grandfather was a responding firefighter to the DuPont plant fire in Louisville, KY 1965. He was inside the plant when it exploded, and hid behind the wheel well of a semi truck for cover. He was separated from his partner during the fire who unfortunately did not survive the fire. Very harrowing to hear him tell the story. The way he tells it, it sounded like they had absolutely no idea what they were walking into when they responded to the fire.

My grandfather worked at a Dupont plant in Eastern Washington for years and his home and town were both down wind from it. The town has a MUCH higher rate of Alzheimer's than almost any town around them. He, his wife, and daughter all passed away within 7 years of each other all from Alzheimer's. For context, his daughter was in her late 40s when she started to develop Alzheimer's

This is exactly the reason that corporation CEOs and executives should be held liable (with no expiration of liability) for their decisions while working for a company.

Ive lived next to Parkersburg my entire life and I’ve been to DuPont a couple times because my mom used to work there, even as a little nine year old without a clue, I knew it wasn’t a good place. They showed us the area where they dumped the chemicals. They painted it in a golden light to make you think that it was an amazing place that changed the world. Now as I grow up I see how awful this place it and I feel so bad about ever thinking it was okay
