Maul in the Phantom Menace: *3 lines of dialogue*

Maul in the clone wars: *fucking Shakespeare*

I love that Ahsoka can't even refute his claim that she left because of the hypocrisy of the Jedi Council. That's an amazing piece of animation right there, how she silently thinks on the words as if trying to find an argument there on her motivations and instead coming to the realization he's *right.*

Maul went from not saying a single word in phantom menace to having the best dialogues ever in star wars lol

1:25 ...that voice...it just shows how true "No matter how tough you are, there’s always a guy that is tougher" actually is....Maul was raised and trained to be fearless machine, so if he's scared, you better be too

I love how desperate Maul is in this moment. Right from the start, when he reminds Ahsoka of how she was cast out of the Jedi Order, she objects by noting that she resigned of her own volition, and Maul visibly scrambles to pull together an argument about how her motivations for doing so in an effort to highlight their similarities as Force wielders rejected by their respective orders. He nearly screams at her for not realizing that the Republic is only days away from falling and Sidious getting his empire, trying to make her understand the stakes of this situation before it's too late to meaningfully act.

And despite his panic, he does actually convince her to join him, which is another aspect of the writing I like. If Maul hadn't mentioned his goal to kill Anakin, Ahsoka might have joined in him against Sidious, an allegiance of two individuals, neither Jedi nor Sith, deciding to take action against the one man who plotted to fulfill his desires for galactic domination. It's a brilliant way to deconstruct the morality of Star Wars by succinctly summarizing the failings of the Order and the importance of cooperating with those of the dark side in order to stop an even greater evil, honestly up there with KOTOR 2. And it's also shown in how the two of them ultimately differ on the issue of Anakin: Maul has no attachments to individuals anymore, while Ahsoka does, an inverse of the teachings of both organizations. Therein lies the tragedy of this scene: if Ahsoka lacked such an attachment to Anakin, then maybe history would have turned out differently, but unfortunately, she believed too strongly in the infallibility of the man who would go on to damn the galaxy.

Maul was the only one who saw it all coming long before it happened. Is truly heartbreaking to see them almost join powers, before he tells her the truth about Anakin

I think a good line in the mandalorian would be Ahsoka saying to mando, “I once let my own attachment prevent me from seeing the bigger picture and paid the price.”

If we were seeing this scene without knowing the outcome of anakins fate, we would be cheering ahsokas decision to fight maul after what he said, but because we know that maul is telling the truth, we are begging her to listen! So amazing!

It's not shown in this clip, but I love the line when Maul is speaking quietly to himself and says "At the time I thought Dooku was an old fool, but now I see he and I are the same, always one step behind".

In my opinion, Filoni's greatest triumph with "Clone Wars", was his expansion of Maul's character, turning him from a cool but one note henchmen, into one of the best written villains in "Star Wars".

maul is, without a doubt, one of the best characters in star wars. he starts as what we think is a pure evil villain but over time we see that he is in more of a grey area, the offer for ahsoka to join him was a legitimate offer

“Too late? For what? The Republic to Fall?! It already has, and you just can’t see it” That line just embodies the entire point of the prequels, Palpatine was able to manipulate the Republic so much, to the point he was already an Emperor, that had the Jedi Order in the palm of his hands by the start of the Clone Wars. It is kind of sad that Maul already knew that for such a long time.

I love the fact how when he says “it already has and you just can’t see it!” Is literally because throughout the series you see Palpatine deregulating the banks, militarizing the republic, producing more clones, and extending his power all in the background and also the gradual shift from the republic style architecture to imperial style and all this can go unnoticed if you aren’t paying attention.

To add to this:
All of this highlights the deconstruction of Democracy and how it doesn’t happen all at once but slowly and gradually over time and you don’t realize it in the moment but only in hindsight after the fact

Sam Witwer did an absolutely incredible job voicing Maul, should have gotten an Emmy.

"You must answer one question."
"You'll have but to ask."

"Have you ever hear the tragedy of darth plagueis the wise?"

"According to My Calculations." I love that little detail right there. When we first saw Maul we assumed he was essentially just an assassin, a guy who could swing a sword well and that was it but as this series shows he's a gifted strategiest, engineer and even a skilled mathematican.

I couldn't have been the only wishing to see an alternate timeline where Maul and Ahsoka actually join forces and in between episodes 3 and 4 we get to see their adventures trying to take down Sidious. Since they have a common goal, they would occasionally team up with the Rebel Alliance. Come on! It's Perfect!

“You lie” so much emotion in that line.

I like that quote “Justice is merely the construct of the current power base” it speaks volumes about history and society. One mans Justice could very well be completely different from anothers. And the definition of Justice always changes with the times. Really brings to life the fact that history is written by the victor.
