The far-right Alternative for Germany party has won Sunday's election in the eastern state of Thuringia, a region where it's considered by German intelligence to be an extremist organization that threatens democracy. At a national level, it's also being investigated for possible extremism. The party, known as AfD, won just under a third of the votes in the state. It vocally opposes military support to Ukraine and wants to prohibit most immigration.

The threat to democracy is not respecting the results of democracy.

Far right is not the problem but the symptom. If you are not happy with the symptoms, fix the problem. And for Germans problems are obvious: mass immigration, economic stagnation, rising costs

The establishment: "Oh no! Time to ignore our citizens' concerns on mass migration and total lack of assimilation even harder!"

It cracks me up. Germany claims the AFD is divisionary yet the government is not going to work with the party that the German people elected and then tell them their vote does not matter. Who is actually being divisive? Do you think those people who voted for the AFD are suddenly going to be like yeah I should vote for you when you told me my vote didn't matter

By far right they mean normal people who love their families and country.

How is it a problem, they were voted for by the people. Thats how democracy works. What am i missing here?

Yes, Germany - and Europe in general - has a very real problem, e.g. mainstream media like DW which keeps labelling ordinary peoples legitimate concerns and voting as "far right" and refuses to talk about the reasons why citizens are worried and looking for change.

God forbid a country elect officials who put them first.

AfD wins with 33% : that's not relevant for the democracy!
Labor wins with 20% of popular vote: " the people have spoken!" 😂

Europe must be for the Europeans. They have no other home.

When you're to the left of Chairman Mao, anyone seems far right.

That expert did not even mention the immigration issue
I'd say that that was the main reason for their high vote!

How ironic to not want to work with a group of people because of "democracy"!

How can they be called far-right when they are the largest party in Thuringia? They are not a fringe party! They are the democratically elected biggest party.

No, Europe has a problem. A problem that needs fixing and I'm proud to see Europeans finally standing up and forcing themselves to be heard. Albiet 30 years late.

It's only democracy when the one you favor wins?
