Oktoberfest has been downsized thanks to Covid, but German politics has gone into full and final gear before Sunday's election.

Thirty percent of the electorate are still undecided and in recent days the polls have tightened.

The slim favourite is still Olaf Scholz from the Social Democrats.

We caught up with him in Bonn before coming here.

While Angela Merkel has appeared on stage in Munich for the final election rally to give the successor chosen by her party one last necessary push.

We took a look at the generational divide that could decide the election.

They going to miss her when she’s not there anymore. She was one of the best politicians of last 20 years who Germans were lucky to have her.

For being able to speak English so clear, O. Scholz has passed all tests to govern the mighty Germany! Congrats, SPD.

She stayed in power too long she should have retired after her second term in 2013

2:10 finally someone who compares in order to make things better. As soon as you do in America, people start talking about Cuba, Venezuela, China, USSR, Saudi Arabia.... It's as if only these our countries Americans compare themselves.
I'm glad germans are comparing themselves to Japan in infrastructure instead of jumping like a monkey "eeehhh weel deed u know iin iindiiea".

They never interview young working class people. And that’s why we have the politics we have now.

The federal system of Germany gives most of the power to the states. There will be not a big change because without lower house (Bundesrat) the government can't do anything. Federalism in general is a good system to maintain stability. The UK and US should think about improving their political system because it's going in the wrong direction.

Returning Germany to a collection of states is more likely than a new popular Chancellor. Germany is not the super success people think it is. It is a union of cottage industries sharing a similar language.
