Onyx hubs are completely silent and have instant engagement - as far as I know, the best hubs you can get for your mountain bike!

Silent hubs are really cool but i guess it works great on roads but in trails i guess noisy hubs would really fit especially going dh to warn others or making your presence noticable

I used to run thick lube on my pawls and it really made it almost silent. I loved hearing the wind and the tires. I also liked passing people quietly during races and would almost always catch them off guard.

You're like the only trials rider i know that runs onyx ...it makes so much sense for a trials rider to run instant engagement, i wonder why it isnt morr popular with the trials crowd

I have those on my hardtail, and they have infinite engagement, the pedal feel is instant. I ride mountain bike so

Teflon grease on and under the pawls plus Motorex bike grease on ratchet ring makes my 3-pawls Novatec D042SB virtually silent for quite a long time.

The screaming bees of a Chris King rear hub is a sound to behold. Instantaneous engagement too.

I recently got silent hubs too, who would have guessed running no wheels is so silent

What surprises me about Onyx is that they don’t have a dirt jumper hub (unless you get a DJ with BMX spacing) or a trials hub.

Onyx are great for road but because of the sprang clutch the engagement is a little spongey, so I wouldn’t say they’re the best for MTB. Check out box Stealth hubs, similar mechanism, instant engagement, silent hubs, rock solid engagement.

I love quiet hubs but the loud hubs work better than a bell if you also use your mtb for commuting

I have one, funny thing is I don’t like it all too much. I do like to have some slack in a hub. I find the onyx hubs to lack variety, as going forward always means your putting force on the pedals.

Love my Onyx. How they have the soft engagment. Feels better than my I9 hubs. Silence is nicer too compared to the "noisy" I9.
