The best chaulk smoother is a small urethane tool that has different radius on each corner, Lowes has them.

Man! That's a hell of a gap to be filling with RTV. I would've taken a flat punch & tapped the pan down closer to the block to close that gap up some on your dry run. All that extra RTV squishes out into your engine... no bueno.

great video. I bent the lip of my stock pan prying it out and was thinking of getting a butler pan (stock lifters). Now that I see that the butler isn't a perfect fit I'm going beat my original back to shape and just use more caulk.

The videos are excellent and you explain in an easy to understand way. I am ready to break down my 1980 T/A 301 & i am definitely going to use all you're good pointers. Don't stop. Thanks again

I have 67 goat. Just had the motor rebuilt. But I have an oil leak most likely from the valley pan. Oil ends up accumulating on top of the water pump. You think it’s possible resealing the pan without removing the manifold?

Hey Monty, great video. I'm removing my Edelbrock P4B manifold I currently have on my 1968 400 and replacing it with a 1969 factory spread bore manifold soon. Do I need to remove the existing valley pan or can I leave it be for this job?? would you recommend re-sealing it since I'm going to have the manifold off? Please advise thx!

great video on the engine. but stick to this and not home repair suggestions. Never caulk around the bottom of a toilet. Reason being if the wax ring fails you want the water to come out between the toilet base and floor so you know it has failed. if you caulk around the base the only way you will know it is leaking is when you find stains on the drywall of you ceiling or walls on the floor below. Or in your basement or crawl space. At that point it is to late and you have more damage to repair.

for your valley pan why not use a gasket

Egad. That valley pan doesn't fit very well at all. Trying to correct a poor fit with globs of RTV doesn't seem like something you really want to do.
