I wanna go back and edit so bad. Instead, I write down edits and changes on sticky notes. Sometimes it's a great writing tools to see potential plot twist lol ..or plot holes 😂

"You can't edit a blank page" - heard this from an agent at a conference and I have had this on a post-it note on the wall above my laptop. it's the best piece of writerly advice I have ever received.

I started writing at 8! My third grade teacher always hated looking over my work because I had a journal and everybody had to write a paragraph about what they did the previous night. I used to add everything, I got super off track a lot. I’m in middle school and I have learned a lot, now I write all sorts of things and currently I’m working on a fan-fiction! I’m so happy I can use your tips to improve my writing!

This realization makes writing my book so much more enjoyable and I’m loving how it’s coming so far

I just began trying to be a writer and I struggle with this horribly. I can feel my enthusiasm for my writing being sucked out because I’m constantly trying to perfect my work as I go.

That is great advice! I think a lot of people have trouble with self doubt and over researching/thinking..just dive in put ideas to paper and work everything out as u go! 😁👍

yess!! I write poetry and for a long time I could never ever just let something be bad, or even so-so. it had to be perfect the first time. I didn’t realize how much I was limiting myself! I’ve since written my best stuff!

I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard writing in comic Sans can help with this. If you set your manuscript to a goofy font for your first draft, you won't feel like this is something that is supposed to be polished and finished at that stage. You can just write with the freedom to be goofy and messy as much as you need as long as you just keep putting words on the page.

That's a good one. It's okay for your 1st draft to suck.

What I like to say is that it will unfold perfectly the way that it is meant to at this moment, and I the writer am just the space for the story to come, whether I revise the chapter later or not. That takes the ego out of the equation that kept going in circles trying to "get it right" because there's no metric for what that is.

This is so true!! You have to be comfortable with just writing and writing and not thinking too much and it being messy. I find writing and note taking by hand in notepads and journals is really helpful and important first.! I usually need to get ideas out by hand before typing.

Work in progress prologue:  "It's pitch black here, " Clover uttered. "I understand Clover. Don't worry, we'll find a way out soon."  Cinnamon reassured him. They continued running till Clover needed to rest. “Cinnamon I’m thirsty.”  Clover said. Cinnamon sighed. “Clover I’ll find some water.” Cinnamon told him.  She left to find water. Three hours pass. “Cinnamon, where are you?”  Clover cried. Minutes pass by. “CLOVER!”  Cinnamon yelled out. “I found you!” Cinnamon exclaimed. “You scared me, I wanted to cry.”  Clover said as he almost started tearing up. “Well sorry, I found some water somehow.”  Cinnamon said. “Well, it is getting brighter.” Clover said.  They continued through the dark.

That was helpful I’ve spent years starting over and re writing instead of just finishing it

I am much like you. I wanted to become a writer at this teenage so badly, but I suck everytime I wrote a story that I didn't even finished it because of being so perfectionist 😭

I'm not a perfectionist hence I published a book, later edited again and published a revised version😅

Wow, this video is a treasure trove of wisdom for aspiring writers! Your transparency about the struggles of writing that first draft is incredibly refreshing. It's so true that being okay with our first attempts, even if they "suck, " is a crucial mindset shift
