Watch A ‘Murder Hornet’ Destroy An Entire Honeybee Hive

Right when we thought 2020 couldn’t get worse, ‘Murder Hornets’ made their big U.S. debut. But are murder hornets as ‘murderous’ as their nickname suggests?

Asian Giant Hornets are responsible for up to 50 deaths a year in Asia, especially in Japan, which has been dealing with the problem for thousands of years. But it takes multiple stings to kill a person. But the real victim and biggest concern is the already declining honeybee population. Murder hornets were first spotted in Washington State in December, and beekeepers there are terrified.

The Asian Giant Hornet is the biggest known hornet in the world. The hornet can grow up to 2 inches long with a curved stinger long enough to puncture a bee suit.

We need the Japanese bees to come over here and teach our bees to fight back

Wow. When they said the stinger is long enough to penetrate a “bee suit” I imagined someone wearing a bee costume for a second before I remembered there are beekeeper suits.

0:27 “you don’t have to worry about murder hornets Killing humans”
“Also they are responsible for 50 deaths a year”

I am a beekeeper in Croatia and our entrances to beehives are small enough for bees to enter but also prevent anything bigger from getting inside. This might be an option to consider...That doesn't prevent them from catching the bees in front of the beehive, but definitely prevents the queen and the hive will easily recover from a few losses of workers.

Looks as though honey bees and praying mantis need to partner up. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

When I saw it in Korea, It just sounded like a diesel engine, When you hear a helicopter and sky is empty, there must be a hornet.

My husband is a bee keeper here in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and our hives have a very small entrance so the bees are free to come and go as they need to but it’s difficult for anything bigger to get inside, this could perhaps be an option to those in other countries with intruder issues. That said however, this unfortunately doesn’t stop them killing bees as the come out of the entrance to the hive 😩 We are lucky in the sense that we don’t yet have Asian Giant Hornets here (Although 1 was identified in 2017 but it turned out to be an isolated case and was thought to have come out of a shipment container from Japan) but we do have European Hornets and they are a real threat to our Honey Bee population 😔 ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
