My teacher taught us multiplication to us like this. The first number is the object. The second is how many of them there are. So if 1 × 2 = 2. Then 1 would be lets say a banana. And two would be how many there were. So how can 1 × 1 equal 1? Easy because there was one banana. Then how can 1 x 0 equal 0? Because there were no bananas. And she told us that the one and zero were special instances. Multiplication doesn't always give you more. But it usually does. So he is absolutely wrong in saying that multiplication gives me you more.... because anything multiplied by zero is....zero

As a math and science girlie, let me tell you, by his logic, his answer is wrong. 1x1 =1, right. 1x1 is equivalent to 1^2 so 1x1=1^2 but that also means 1x1=1x1 so it, itself is a balanced equation. Mind exploded!
