Enjoyed the video. I've been on Linux Mint for 2+ years, but have an interest in Ubuntu's progress as well. Thanks

I've been playing with the early version of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and its actually pretty good. I still don't like that they are trying to throat fuck people with snaps but the OS itself is decent.

Hard to ignore the BS being done with Firefox, of course it'll touch future LTS releases. Big groan.

I just, actually, updated my firmware / bios on my Dell XPS 17 9710 model using KDE neon. It is called LVFS (Linux Vendor Firmware Service). It is something I needed to turn on in my bios because this machine came originally with that other OS. I have been testing Jammy Jellyfish on and off, I rather use Arco Linux right now.

I probably would not use vanilla Ubuntu nowadays, since I don't like Gnome or snaps, but I'm looking forward to the LTS release since I plan to upgrade a Linux Mint office machine which is nearing EOL soon to the next LM version which will be based on Ubuntu 22.04. I hope the Mint team will manage to get rid of all the snap nonsense :D

And I agree, it would be a rather bold move to roll out the new installer with a LTS release. The installer is not important enough to risk major problems if there is some kind of critical bug in it... so they'd be better off just running the old installer one last time.

They say they are going to improve gaming...

At least, there is still some hope for Linux after all...

At this point I'm not sure if I wanna switch to 2204, cause 2004 works just perfectly fine, best OS I've ever used actually!

I have 4 DE choices on my Ubuntu 20.04: gnome with wayland, gnome with x-11, ubuntu with wayland, ubuntu with x-11 - all 4 are gnome 3.36.8. i know that now ubuntu has upgraded to gnome 40 or 41 and the next LTS will be with gnome 42. so the question is: if i eventually upgrade to 22.04 LTS will the 4 DE options become 4 gnome 42 OR 2 will be gnome 42 (the ubuntus) and 2 will remain gnome 3.36.8 (the gnomes)?

I used UBUNTU until they started using that thing along the left edge of the screen like Docky but not after that point.

Snap Firefox and Thunderbird don't theme okay. Doesn't matter to me much though because I always use the tar anyway.

Honestly I would be thrilled if Ubuntu made a flutter based DE. It would make me excited about Ubuntu.

I’d they don’t do that then I will stick with Manjaro.

I suspect program crash error messages which I receive every single time I used any version of Ubuntu. It just has been my reality. 🥺

I don't know why Linux youtubers still talking about Ubuntu and promoting it. It should be dumped on history trash. Currently Ubuntu is Windows in world of Linux. As LTT showed, sooner or later you run into problems with it. Most of problems described by new Linux users are about any Debian clone and dependency Hell - with famous DE deinstallation when trying to install Steam. But still thumbs up for preinstalling Ubuntu on new machines - still better then Windows. But, I would recommend changing Ubuntu to Kubuntu since it would be easier for Windows users. When newbie runs into Gnome, it would be confused and probably change it to Windows faster then with Kubuntu.

On steam arch (almost twice if you combine arch and manjaro) has a higher market share than ubuntu so how do you even messure popularity ?

More snap, more telemetry and more bloat.
