Were practicing missfire drills prior to firing Live LAWS rockets.
Halfway through the day, a very new 2ndLt was assigned to a firing bay as the safety officer. Arrogant pup.
One of the Older NCO'S went back to the salvage area, reassembled a fired tube and got to the bay on the pretext of firing. Obviously nothing happened when he announced that he was firing, and instead of doing the drill, cussed out the crappy tube while slamming it into the side of the concrete firing bay. Everyone was in on it axcept the young cocky officer ... now that was a sight, to see the panic, the scared look and the flying through the air to safety. Back in the 80's.
Lesson learned.
