F35 vtol ver reminded me of the AV8 Harier the USMC used in 80s/90s

imho... . I could entertain a thoughtful argument as to whether we actually needed both, B and C variants, but as it stands currently, I don't see the need for the C. The latest F18 variant is still a highly advanced 4.5 generation fighter and we really only needed to replace the Marines' AV-8B Harrier. As to the USAF, they already have the supremely capable F22, supplemented by the newest F-15EX legacy fighter. The F35A was forced upon the USAF, even though as a whole they didn't want it. Proponents of the F35 needed the increased order numbers to justify the production cost-overrun debacle, to compensate for below expectation foreign sale orders.

Both options are useful and have their drawbacks. Fuel, weight, wear and tear.

I love how everyone is all hype with short or vertical take off stealth aircraft but no one gives credit to the thousands of years of engineering that's built up to this point and to also point out the catapult system which is an ancient technology.

The f35 b has problems no doubt.But imo it is the most important fighter aircraft design in modern history.We need to build at least a thousand over it's life time in more advanced blocks.Take Izumo for instance Without the f 35 b it's a helicopter destroyer.With it it's a aircraft carrier capable of launching the most survivable fighter in history.Also in a war in can launch from a wider array of airports and or road's as video said. The simple fact that you can land an F-35 with VTOL in the middle of the jungle, go do your thing, come back and hop in to take off without assistance, is amazing.
