I joined because I was 17 and my mom passed away from cancer, I had no family left no friends to live with and no real knowledge of being a adult, But before she passed she signed the papers for me, And in 1999; the USMC gave me a huge family and I stayed 16 year's I wish I was still there,

During my senior year of high school, I decided to join the military. I talked to an Army recruiter and a Navy recruiter. They offered me the same things like paying for college and learning a trade. Then a Marine Corps recruiter contacted me and said they offer the same tangible benefits, but they were the hardest branch that would kick my ass, disassemble me and put me back together. Why would I agree to that? Because he told me the uniform would get me laid. I was 17 years old and didn't think things through. I have no regrets. My time in the Corps was some of the best years of my youth.

Also, crayons aren't bad if you remove the wrapper. My favorite flavor is purple.

The judge... gave my dad 2 choices.. Marine Corp, or jail.. ya i messed up big time.. but this was how things were in the 70's.. sure glad dad said Marine Corp thinking back.

The Drill instructors asked that in boot camp, and I said "because the air force recruiter wasn't there that day" and the DI's had a good ole time with that. I worked on planes in the Marine Corps... and it was a true story, I had an appointment with teh AF recruited, but he wasn't there. I chatted with the Marine recruiters, and off to Parris Island I went....

I joined to get stationed in Japan but got Okinawa for a year and I LOVED IT! I begged to say for the rest on my enlistment but only marines married to Okinawans can stay. Shipped out to The Stumps and I LOVE IT TOO! SoCal parties were amazing!

Plot Twist: That's exactly what the recruiter meant by "travel".

Always wanted to be part of the bad ass pack
Marines will forever be part of the military I’d watch in admiration when spotted.
These videos are definitely tossing that love away though..
Held the military on some sort of pedestal that couldn’t be broken down.
The youth has definitely broken that B to the floor with this “real” military life view.
I know the military is tough but the disrespect to the branches now a days has set a fire we will lose control of.

My son joined the USMC after high school, became an intelligence specialist then a USMC security guard at US Embassies and did 3 tours overseas at 3 Embassies, finished his enlistment as a Sergeant and came home to earn his BS in Business Economics which his GI bill paid for and is almost finished with his MBA and currently doing an internship in finance in DC. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Keep on truckin’. semper fi
