We have towed our 5er with our F350 SRW and it’s ok with braking. We now pull with our RAM DRW, night and and day difference with down and dirty power and shifting! And exhaust brake is top of the diesel truck world, we typically have to accelerate down hills because the engine brake is so efficient!

You should use your exhaust brake at all times, and you should turn your trailer brake controller up to ten! I am a retired RV transport driver. I have been on every road in this country and never had any brake problems. Use the transmission, engine brake and go slow.

That view brings back memories. Back in 75 we drove from Cheyanne to Yellowstone. We saw the Tetons including Grand Teton. I think we went along side more than up into them.

Taking the Hoback through Alpine detours the Teton pass and Pine creek pass. Only adds 20-30 min…..well worth it.

Jackson is the town, Jackson hole is the entire valley.

beautiful views, and great information.
rule of thumb. go slower down hill, then you go uphill.
i drive heavy stuff. in higher grades . good info, good video

Use tow/haul and exhaust mode at the same time. That really slows you down 👍🇺🇲

We took our F-250 (gasser) with our 5th wheel last year over the Teton Pass and for the first time in a long time, I too was "white knuckling" it. I didn't have so much of an issue going downhill since I put the trans. in manual and stayed in 2nd and 3rd gears. I also just had the brakes on the F-250 replaced with Akebono pads (not a sponsor). They are a superior brake pad and didn't have any "brake fade" on hard braking. It was going uphill that we had a bit of a struggle as we were getting passed by just about everyone but that's okay. We made in in/out of Jackson and had a great time while there.

The key to RVing steep ascents and descents is a diesel. :) I never saw a grade in 4 years of towing a 15, 000 lb fifth wheel in mountainous terrain in the western US that I needed to use the brakes on if I geared down properly before the descent. The engine brake on my Cummins Ram 3500 is usually more effective on grades than is needed, and I have to touch the throttle occasionally to shut it off so the truck and trailer don't end up going too slow.

I lived in Driggs for 4 years. The first time I drove the Pass was hairy! I had no idea what I was taking on. I didn’t have the internet to research it and navigated with a Garmin. I drove a 26 foot U-Haul pulling a 12 foot trailer in early March. I lived in Alaska for 5 years so I was acquainted with driving in the snow but snow on Teton Pass is a whole different story.

Jackson Hole is located in the Northwest area of the U.S. State of Wyoming near the border with Idaho. Jackson Hole refers to the valley created between the Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges. The Northern part of Jackson Hole is primarily taken up by Grand Teton National Park.

Last time we were through there, we went into the park via the West Yellowstone gate on US 20, then turned South on US 191 running our 40ft Kountry Star plus a 20ft car trailer with toads. Never encountered any road restrictions, and the US20/191? is mostly a "water route" with no serious Getting ready to make that run again in a couple weeks, as we are flying to Seattle and picking up our 71 F250/390.... as always... enjoy the life... we do

Just returned from the same area and white knuckle is a good phrase. Fortunately the Arctic Fox has disc brakes, they really help reducing brake fade. My oil temp on my 6.7 power stroke reached 240 degrees on the up hill climb.

Exhaust brake on full, tow/haul mode on, brake controller adjusted higher. Speed up hill should be speed you want going down hill.

Didn't hear about the engine or exhaust brake, different than compression braking. I've been over that pass twice with my 36ft 5th wheel and my 3/4 ton chevy Duramax, switch on the exhaust brake hardly have to use the truck brake.

We stayed at Henry’s State Park and the attendant advised us not to take it over to Jackson and we had a small Class C flat towing a small car. Your towing a trailer and a car…that was crazy. We went south then east on much better roads,

Speaking as someone who once operated a tow truck on Teton pass. If you are smart…take an alternate route. I’ve seen many people lose their lives and it’s not worth the time you save.

My wife and I have been thru Jackson thru Grand Tetons in our class c Rv . Jackson Hole is the valley where the winter elk range is located. Thousands of elk come down out of the mountains to winter in Jackson Hole National Rlk Range and Refuge .
