Carbon monoxide poisoning is a potentially fatal health hazard most common in winter. But did you know research suggests carbon monoxide is also dangerous when you are exposed to low levels over long periods of time, and a carbon monoxide alarm or detector might not alert you to these levels? In this episode of Learn Something New™ by NFPA Journal®, we explore the lesser-known impacts of carbon monoxide and how low-level and long-term exposure affects health.

My grandma and her family were almost killed by carbon monoxide poisoning. Her dad was working on the car in the garage and the car was running. My grandma and her siblings were falling asleep and my great grandma had a headache. Two of my grandma’s aunts happen to be there and recognized that they were being poisoned by carbon monoxide. They managed to get everyone out and told my great grandpa that he needed to shut the car off. He never forgave himself for what happened but thankfully everyone was okay.

we have some trucks that have the exhaust out let right behind the truck cab. and when the long framed ones have a trailer on them the exhaust swirls between the cab and the truck. when this truck goes into regen I cannot breath with both windows down due to the extremely pungent fumes in the cab. I told my company about this and got ignored. One driver I once knew drove the same model and thought due to the constant airing about Convid thought he had the flu got the dose blood clotted and he died. My left arem swelled in very serious pain could hardly stay awake constant headaches. got out of that truck finally to one with a stack and my health problems began to reverse after driving a stack exhaust truck. Warning to all you drivers with the "weed burner exhaust" your getting this type of poisoning. My cognitive function is still off months later. This documentary is spot on to my personal experience.

I was working on my petrol car with engine running., half an hour with big door up for fresh air. I ended up the next 3 days with a severe headache, cold shaking, soaking sweats, aching body., sore throat and sore eyes. And all because trying to sort a misfire.

one of my worst fears is being killed by carbon monoxide. You just get more drowsy and sleepy until you basically die of asphyxiation. You can not even tell its present cause it smells like air. Very scary!

The half life of Carbon Monoxide in your blood stream is 5 and 1/2 hours. That's a long time to cause some effects!

I woke up in a puddle of water in freezing rain with no fingernails. I laid there for hours coughing and felt like I was drowning over and over again. I couldnt understand what had happened till I looked behind me and saw the bloody claw marks on the ground . I had clawed my way outside of the building I was in. The flue pipe in the attic had collapsed, recirculating the exhaust throughout the building. I should have called for help. Its been 12 years and I still feel ill . I can detect it just by smell now. When its present I know it cause all my symptoms increase in severity. It caused brain damage and lots of unknown problems. I feel sick endlessly. I just turned 37.

Just to let everyone know, Lasko/Germguardian makes a 22 inch air purifier that you can buy a special filter called Toxin Guard that can filter out Carbon Monoxide with a two-stage Hepa Filter / Charcoal Filter.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't have carbon monoxide detectors outside of the room you are sleeping in though. Having the carbon monoxide detector in your bedroom probably means it is too late (unless you are sleeping with a heater ... then good luck) and the levels are most likely too toxic to get up and do anything about it

There is only one question I have after accidentally being poisoned, actually two, that I found no answer to googling.
Recovery time line. The other is if it can be diagnosed with certainty.
So after hour or more I don’t even know if I will recover, or if symptoms are going away anytime soon….3 days later

My carbon monoxide alarms are going off. 🚨 it’s scary. I called 911 the fire truck 🚒 came. Then centerpoint energy is here testing my stove and furnace.
They have better testers!
It’s worth to have the professionals check. My batteries 🔋 🔋 are new. I write ✍️ on them with a Parker.
