Keep in mind the R5 5500 only supports PCIE 3.0 not PCIE 4.0. The R5 3600 does support PCIE 4.0

Got a bunch of those Kingston NV 2 drives that are dead in my desk drawer. They are hit and miss depending on the batch, even changing between TLC and QLC (got one of each when ordering 2 from same seller)

The 5500 and the 3600 are on par for performance. I would spend a little bit more and get the 5600...

I'd argue for the 3060 if you need the vram. I do social vr (chilloutvr, vrchat, etc.) and those basically demand vram

I have built 2 PCs in the Black Version of that Case and it is surprisingly nice for a budget M-ATX build. If your going for a "sleeper" or non RGB look it is a great option.

I think cheap ssds are an overlooked component. Quicker read times help windows and games load faster and download faster as well.

Honestly I would choose the 3060 12GB over the 4060 since you will stutter so much with these new games and only 8GB. The performance is definitely better with the 4060 but not with that VRAM

SO, the motherboard advice isn't exactly the greatest if they dont already have a CPU compatible with a B450 chipset. The 450 boards need a BIOS update to run the 5000 series CPUs, and the only way to do that to the board is to have a 2nd or 3rd gen Ryzen cpu to be able to do the bios update.

i got an rtx 3060 it was only after I got it that i realized that I should have gotten the rtx 4060.

if he's not planning to upgrade the advice is solid but to keep the pathways open it might be good to upgrade for certain motherboard features

edit: in addition to some comments pertaining to PCIe lane slot availability, this is another key factor
