Is this cheaper option better than the Surface Pen?

Over the years I've tried lots of Surface Pen alternatives. And I'd almost given up... Until now! This is the first Surface Pen alternative that I'd consider superior to the Surface Pen for note taking.

Happy Renaisser user here too, it's a lot cheaper than the new Surface Pen and the side eraser button makes a lot more sense for note taking. I'm glad it exists because it means other companies want to get into the Surface ecosystem. Hopefully it will make pen-enabled tablets more common.

Precisely the content I was looking for as I'm trying to figure out which new pen to get for my new Microsoft Surface Go 3 that's on the way. Thank you for the concise, thorough, realistic commentary. I am admittedly super envious of your giant Surface Studio!!

I am very curious about this pen. I like the fact it has tilt and I'm loving the idea of an eraser button. I find flipping the surface pen 180 very slow and can send it spinning across the room 😂. I like how it's cheaper than the Surface pen and I'm curious about the software included. Thanks for the review!

I just bought a Rena 520 and can't wait to use it! Personally the reasons you didn't like it are what I liked about it. The fact that I have to turn it on to use it only serves as a reminder to myself that it's truly a stylus and not just some random pen I picked up from around the clinic! You see; I'll be using this device along with my new surface Pro 7 Plus at work while taking notes, jotting down memo's and information about patients that I need to have in order to complete my internship and a lot of the pens used in clinic look similar to these... They don't have buttons of course. Lol. Thanks for making this review and ultimately saving me $70.00 +.

I recently lost my surface pen at uni and with a students budget $155 NZD is not something I'm willing to spend, so I'm really glad to hear that good alternatives are out there!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm kind of curious how it feels to draw with it compared to the surface pen. Thanks for being so thorough. I was just about to ask about the pen tip compatiblity.. And you read my mind. Thanks

I got a pen from amazon the company is sky mirror. It seems to have everything you said you wanted in the video, with side button right click and erasing and the magnetic attach, and it comes with 2 interchangeable tips. Its a great pen and works great with my surface go 2

I like how the eraser tool works when using GoodNotes with the Apple pencil on the iPad. The way GoodNotes works, you can set it up so that you tap an icon on the screen to switch to the eraser, erase what you want, and then it automatically switches back to whatever tool you were using beforehand. So you click the erase icon, erase what you want, and continue. To me it feels very quick and natural, and I miss it when using other applications.

Also, i agree with you, I think it would be awkward to have to turn my pencil around to use the eraser.

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Surface Pen alternatives. It sounds like you've been on quite the journey to find the right one for your note-taking needs.

The Raphael520 from Renaiza seems intriguing, especially with its magnetic attachment feature and familiar pen tip. Tilt sensitivity might not be your priority, but it's nice to have as an added bonus. However, the need to manually turn it on and charge it could be a bit inconvenient compared to the Surface Pen.

I'd love to hear more about your experience with the Raphael520. How has it been working for you over time? Have you noticed any other pros or cons that you'd like to share? Your insights could be really helpful for others considering this alternative.

Thanks for the recommendation and your honest review! 🖊✨

I'm looking for a pen that is similar but cheaper than Adonit Ink M. I have recently bought surface Go 2 and I am getting fed up with smudges on the screen and even though I am getting on well with the type cover mouse pad, I would rather use something else. Yes, I could use a mouse but why bother if there is an alternative. The question is whether there is an alternative ...

I bought a Rena pen after this review and to be honest, I found that it is more stable than a regular surface pen, but the surface slim pen beats the Rena pencil for performance and latency, and being able to detect subtle pressure sensitivity differences

I already had two of them. Now I am going to buy a third one or the surface pen. The problem with my first one was that I dropped it and I lost the button on the back side. Without the button it wasn't chargeable anymore. The second one just stopped working after a year or so.

If one has used traditionally configured pencils as long as I have, the posterior mount eraser, despite more movement, is much more memory embedded. In my brain to muscle memory!

I used a Bamboo ink+ for a while with my SP3, and I loved it.
Now I upgraded to a SP7 and it's not the best as it turns itself off quite aggressively.
I might give this pen a shot, as I like the side eraser too.

I just realized while I preferred the top eraser while what you said does make sense... I tend to annotate with the screen in vertical position (well, more like at an angle), not on a table and I just rotate the wrist to erase, not my fingers, which for me is actually faster than looking for a button to press... I never use the pen on an horizontal screen, but if I did the button makes more sense.. By the way I also have some non surface devices that use a button instead... and for the reason I mention I prefer surface...
