I bought an 808 in '90-'91 in mint cosmetic condition, fully functional for $200 in California where I lived and sold it over the phone (pre internet days) for $800 to some guy in Detroit less than 2 months later… just one of a few vintage instruments I wish I still had… they're like money in the bank

Unlike the Roland boutique version, the RD-8 is an exact copy of the analog circuitry of the original 808. I own the TD-3-MO (modded 303), RD-6 (606), RD-8 and RD-9 (909) while I'm waiting for version 2 of the MS-1 (101) to be released by Behringer. They are all amazing and a must have if you're into 80's, 90's and techno music.

Ive had tr8s, rd9, rd8 mk1 & rd8mk2

My thoughts ...

Soundwise all the behringers sound awesome, wave designer is great for punchy drums.

Tr8s acb sounds are sweet and once you orocess them you can get very close to the originals

I decided to stick with tr8s and sell the others because cist of an rd8 & rd9 you can get the tr8s whivh is much more a workhorse, doubles as a fantastic midi controller so you can incorporate ableton drum racks seamlessly to get round the 32mb sample limit

I recently bought the RD-8, I noticed the output level is very low even with the pots all the way up (about -20db), is this normal?

Ooooo interesting now when you say it’s analog does it produce slightly different waveforms each time like the Roland would ? Might have to get it if it does !

roland tr-8 is way better you get 808 and 909 sounds roland quality it is digital but you can't tell, also smaller and same price

It’s not an emulation, it’s a hardware re-creation. Emulation suggests impersonation through software or other means that differ from real, authentic hardware.
