A Simple Somatic Practice For Those With Chronic Illness (Signal Safety to Your Brain)

During my chronic illness journey, I often felt very unsafe in my own body. This is a sign that the nervous system is dysregulated and stuck in “survival mode”. When our brains are stuck in a constant survival state, it’s almost impossible to physically heal—as our bodies are too focused on the perceived “immanent threat”. ❤️‍🩹🧠

Simple somatic exercises like this one can help signal safety to our brain and body so healing can start to take place. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

✨ This exercise can be done anywhere. I’ve done it while traveling, at family gatherings, or in bed before I go to sleep. I often hold this posture while doing my brain retraining visualizations—and find it so calming.
✨ If you notice yourself yawning or your stomach gurgling, that’s a sign of release of stored “survival energy”.
✨ The sensation of being held and protected can help bring your nervous system into a more regulated state.

I’ve found somatic practices to be a great compliment to brain retraining with DNRS (and of course, animal based nutrition). Leave a comment down below if you’d like me to share more about brain retraining & somatic practices!

I find any and all information about this to be helpful. We have similar stories — hEDS, CCI, POTS/ mystery variety of dysautonomia, syncope 10-15x weekly, gasteroperisis, GERD, probable MCAS, chronic migraine and vestibular migraine, primary reynauds, on my 5th round of cervical PRP and first round of ankle and SI. I have been on full disability for 15 months and counting. I am trying to avoid cervical and ankle fusions while getting my life back, it’s certainly a journey. I am so encouraged to see you doing better step by step recently! I hope to one day do the same 💛
