All of this is so true....especially that other people really don't pay that much attention to what we are wearing. Also, that shopping gives us a high. I have bought for other people thinking I'm doing something great for someone else. In reality I think it was to be able to buy something with no guilt attached to it.

Four types of cluttering I've seen are: 1. My mother-in-law, who grew up in the depression--Save old junk because some day I may use it. (A closet full of plastic grocery bags. Expired food in the freezer. Many containers of putrid bacon grease in the refrigerator.) My Dad--Keep buying items he thinks the kids will want when he someday dies. My Mother--buying different kinds of collectibles (dolls, broaches, dog figurines, etc.) because in her mind, it helps define who she is. Me--I don't want that stuff after they've died but, holding on to some of it because I feel guilty getting rid of it.

Great video! I agree that it is easier for affluent people to sustain a decluttered environment. I sometimes worry that I need to stock up on sale items or hang on to a tool so I don’t have to repurchase. Your recent video about accepting doubt as a part of life has helped me in that regard. Thanks for sharing with us! ❤

just found your channel and I have already listened to two videos, this is my favorite so far, and I got up and was putting away laundry and decluttering while listening. How motivating you are. Everything you said makes sense and I agree that you can accumulate too many small things, or extra, so you can feel like you just have a lot of stuff. But what I ended up with was a lot of cheap things, choosing quantity over quality. Then go into a wealthy person's home and they value quality, not quantity. So they might have fewer nice clothes, but they are such high quality and are actually put into use often, that the price tag might be worth it. I have lived my life ( I first typed in " lie ", maybe a freudian slip there) with poverty mentality. Now I know that if I make a mistake and donate something and then decide later that I need that again ( which I haven't known to happen so far ) then I can just go buy it with the new knowledge that I did need that after all, oh well, no big deal, keep moving and don't let that hinder the process. I'm so glad to be here, thanks for your great videos and I'm chewing away at this small, organized hoard and little at a time.

Personally I believe happiness comes from our animals, although it can within loving relationships, but not everyone has that constant.

Side note, I love the way you display your wedding photos on that wall, the 3 hanging framed photos. Love that look!

Great video, and it is still hard to declutter, but worth it. My biggest belief is to slow or stop the incoming stuff. if you can stop or at least severely reduce the flow rate in then you can afford to work somewhat more slowly in your decluttering, but if the incoming is on full blast, then you will struggle to just find a place to sit and think about decluttering.

Elin, another thoughtfully curated video. Ive been under a lot of heaviness lately, and today my declutter was simply one drawer in the kitchen. Im inspired to do a bit more after seeing this.
Ps: What a beautiful wedding portrait in the background!

Love your content Aylin. I used to take my afternoon off once a month from work and that was my declutter time. 😊

Very helpful - I agree that it is easier to part with possessions if you know that you can easily replace them (You can afford to replace them). I also believe ( and have witnessed in others) that if you are not a confident person you can mistakingly believe that possessions can help bolster your confidence. All very deep and complicated 🤯

There are many reasons (excuses) why people have cluttered homes, but I believe that to avoid clutter, you must have discipline every day of your life. For example, when you get mail, just go through it immediately and toss whatever is not important. It’s little things like that which add up over time.
