This guy made a utopian society. Perfect in every way. Even uses his magic to make some wishes come true (so long as they’re not too vague, like the opposite of how a genie would use that vagueness to screw you over), and some teenage girl starts a revolt because her grandpa’s wish couldn’t be granted? He’s not the villain, he’s the hero. No wonder he gets mad. How ungrateful can these people be?

That is the thing that really screws up this character as a villain.
The writers stated when they made this movie they wanted this guy to be an unsympathetic villain, just like the classic Disney villains.

And then they give a legitimate reason why he’s doing what he’s doing, they make the main character an idiot who doesn’t seem to understand why he’s doing what he’s doing,
To add insult to injury, they add a magical item that makes him evil.

I mean, seriously how do you screw this up that badly?
He’s not even a love to hate villain because you give a outside force as the reason for why he’s evil.

I have to agree with you on that one. King Magnifico made a kingdom where everyone can live without having to pay rent, and Asha has to f**k it all up by stealing a wish just so her granddad can become a bard. And when King Magnifico confronts Asha on it, he ends up crushing her mother’s wish which not only caused her to go into a coma, but it ends up corrupting Magnifico in the process. I’m beginning to see why Magnifico has been hording people’s wishes. He knew that there are some wishes that are just plain idiotic and somewhat destructive like wishing for a Giant Fire Breathing Chicken, wishing for the world’s water to turn into wine or wishing for a rain of fried cream/candy.

This movie makes me think we’re doing something deeply wrong socially where the message is essentially “no you actually SHOULD kill the golden goose. You DESERVE MORE NO MATTER WHAT”

What’s truly sad is that Disney has covered this whole wish granting thing before. Just look at Genie from Aladdin: even *he* can’t grant EVERY wish his master asks of him. Why? Because some humans can be cruel creatures when it comes down to it. *Some* form of limitations need to be set or you know some asshole that’s going to take it too far.

And in Princess and the Frog!! They did this too! Can’t believe I forgot this!

(This has nothing to do with my earlier point, but I *HATE* the animation of this movie. This movie marks 100 years of Disney’s work, and this how they show it? Like don’t get me wrong; I’ve seen worse, but come on, this is DISNEY!)

How is he evil you can live in his kindom for free, you have the chance of a wish to be granted, the depretion rate is 1 person, the king is responsable not granting every wish. Sounds great i would give a wish to live there.

Now how is asha good? She only cared about wishes becuse she found out her grandfather was not going to have his granted(selfish), she started a riot for no good reson, she does not understand how dangerous grating every wish can be.
