I always tho that mermaid cannot breath above the water while siren can. That's why siren can "sing" (some myth even depicted that they can even fly too) and seduce with their humanoid figures. Mermaid might sing underwater, but I imagine it will sounds like a whale and I think the old sailors didn't purposely dipped their head underwater and somehow seduced by it's singing. I think mermaid looks more of a fish monster while siren is more like a humanoid figures with fish body parts, but I'm not sure because I'm not a cryptozoologist or anything. Just using my imagination with a bit of logic. LOL

In Spanish mermaid means sirena and sirena menas siren. There is no distinction between the 2 based on behavior or looks. it’s a synonym, nothing more nothing less.

Sirens aren’t that aggressive. They are warriors of the waters but as far as a species collective I wouldn’t label them as aggressive just like you wouldn’t for a mermaid as you’re saying who also are know for drowning sailors. In this video, you use the example of the TV series, “Siren, ” and in that episode Rynn the leader is “aggressive” towards agitators but kind to friends. Maddi teaches her to be kind to friends though her sister is killed by humans and still Rynn overcomes all of that as the main character I think she is actually depicted more as the hero character, the goddess, the peacemaker between all tribes over and under water.
