My Insulin Resistance Journey - What is my new A1c? 2024

Another year, another A1c and glucose check! As someone with insulin resistance, a history of gestational diabetes, and a1c in the prediabetic range in the past, I get so nervous when it's time to do bloodwork during my annual checkup! After trying low-carb and keto, I've decided to take a more in-moderation approach to food to see how that works for my body, but it's hard to know what is helpful/harmful for our individual selves! But here we go... watching this video to see where my A1c lands this year!

A little bit about my blood sugar journey... I was told I was insulin resistant in 2017 after a glucose tolerance test my reproductive endocrinologist ordered for me when I was having trouble getting pregnant. And after conceiving, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes very early on. Since then, I've been diligently learning about blood sugar dysregulation and gathering data through constant finger pricks and CGM experiments since I am now at greater risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes in the future. I've learned A LOT about what works and doesn't work for my body, and how my body responds to different foods. I hope this video helps you on your path to a healthier lifestyle!

Thank you for sharing your journey. Testing with your glucometer before labs is a great idea, thank you for sharing.

I think you're fine and you should keep doing what you're doing. My issue with gestational diabetes only resurfaced when I turned 49. I was diagnosed with prediabetes at this age. I also weigh 20 more lbs when I was diagnosed. I'm now trying to lose all that extra weight to hopefully reverse the diagnosis.

Hi hon, you made a comment in your video about others saying that you're "too normal" and not really insulin resistant etc...Thing is, they don't know you, they don't know your body. I was just recently told I was diabetic & it's a very hard pill to swallow. I'm still learning all about what to eat & with what etc...I watched both of your fruit videos & now this one & think what you're doing for your body & for others to better understand is really great & I really appreciate the general information & will use it for my own journey. Thank you & I hope to get where you're at in your numbers someday :)

I am going the same journey as yours after the doc said I’m pre-diabetic last Dec. Reduce carb intake, exercise regularly, wear a cgm, start eating keto food, 0 sugar and snack…..

I stumbled across your videos, and I enjoyed listening to you. You do your homework and talk in a way that sounds engaging and friendly. I don't have insulin issues, but I do like to keep myself fit and try to limit blood sugar spikes. I do similar carb restrictions and blood sugar spike countering based on my research.

Thanks for your videos. I only recently subscribed and have been inspired by the scientific approach you are taking to test how your body is going. I too had gestational diabetes twice and was told 16 years ago with my first that I was at risk to Type 2 diabetes within 5 years. Thankfully that was not the case but 15 years on, my morning/fasting levels have been creeping (dawn phenomenon?) and I’ve started using a meter again to keep an eye on things. It’s also inspired me to be more strict with my diet again (something I should’ve been doing more religiously but chocoholic). I don’t see the purpose of viewers telling you are not insulin resistant. I understand there is a range with readings and if you have evidence you are, then surely it behooves you to take the steps you want to to lower sugar intake and minimised the insulin spike. In any case, that is good practice for all our bodies. You don’t sound like you are doing anything ridiculously drastic that would be concerning for your health if you were not insulin resistant. Less sugar in general is a good thing.

Thank you so much for doing the hard part of this journey!! I am now in the journey to check my sugars and this gives me hope because it seems like there’s a lot of fear in eating foods because of the glucose spikes!! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

I’m binge watching your videos but based on your trig to hdl ratio, you are doing I don’t think you have IR anymore. You should re do your IR tests and get a fasting insulin test done. Love your content, so so so relatable. ❤

Lol ... 5.6% seems to be my repeated number as well. I am 60yo and i have hovered around mid-5's since early 2000's. Its not great to be honest. I can tell you that i am experiencing cognititve decline and some orrher aging issues. No no no i am going to actively fight this with exercise and lowER carb focus. Wish i had started fighting 20 years ago instead of being complacant and kicking the can down the road.

I may have commented already regarding the CGM but just in case. When your CGM says your glucose is very high test with your glucometer. I've experimented with the Libre my mom and mother in law use the libre they are both type 2. I always suggest that they check with their glucometer first before taking insulin or eating sugar. All 3 of us have noticed from time to time the CGM can report numbers 20-40 too high compared to glucometer. We also noticed it doesn't display good numbers after a shower and if you're sleeping/crushing it. Or accidentally hit it against the door frame😂well congrats on your a1c! Your exercise after meals I'm sure helps out a lot too. Good luck with your remodel.

Very nice work documenting your journey and helping others. Thanks. So I just came across your videos and thought of sharing some insights based on my personal experience. You do have insulin resistance otherwise your A1C should have been less than 5. An ideal fasting sugar is 75-80 mg/dL. IMHO, you have to look holistically at everything. Your A1C will not drop to less than 5 no matter what you do IF: you have a tendency towards constipation, you have poor sleep, you have other unexplained issues e.g. hangnails, blackheads, you easily bite your cheeks while chewing food etc. Food is just one, there are so many things which need to be looked at holistically before your A1C will come to ideal level. I will try to make few videos covering all those. Modern medicine is just scratching the surface, the generational wisdom and thousands of years of evolution has a much deeper understanding of human body than our doctors know. I assume you have a smart watch and you are on top of your heart and sleep stats as those are an indirect indicator of inner body's workings and health e.g. your HRV, Resting heart rate, sleep cycles for restorative sleep etc. IMHO, there is no other tracker better than Fitbit Charge 6 at tracking sleep, one of the most overlooked and underemphasized metric. Keep up the good work. Stay blessed.

OH and have you tested out the vinegar theory? Have a glass of water with a tablespoon of any vinegar (not seasoned rice vinegar though that has sugar) it works really well for me no spike higher than 140! And to refrigerate rice or potatoes for resistant starch.

You’re obviously forgetting that the A1c is only half of the picture you could be significantly different from last year if you’re. using twice the amount or even more of insulin to keep that 5.7
Without an insulin score you really have no idea where you’re at compared to last year
