There is something about Inkscape where everything is going smoothly and suddenly whoa! I too had this issue today. Some how I got a zero in that bottom left opacity setting box making new objects have invisible fill and stroke. Thanks for posting since when I get these weird problems I instantly do a search and find places like this that offer advice/solutions.

Major thanks! I've been using vector programs for maybe 40 years, with 30 of those as an engraver - Draw, , Artworks, XaraX, CorelDraw. I've only been using Inkscape for a few days, pending finding out if my existing Corel version will run on the new pc. Couldn't figure it out. I knew it was going to be something like that but reached the point where it was quicker to Google than continue digging around in Inkscape!

THANK YOU, SO MUCH!! I couldn't for the life of me figure out why my fill color was yellow, but nothing was happening. My opacity (the regular) was set to 0. I didn't even think to look there. You're a life saver!

You just saved my bacon. I was watching another tutorial and when it got to strokes and fill the guy said hold the shift and pick a color, but it was not working for me. I could not figure out what was wrong. I would have probably given up on inkscape. Definitely deserves a like and subscribe.
