What To Expect From a DEEP Cleaning at the Dentist

Let's talk about deep cleanings - including the procedure itself, post-op instructions, recovery, and everything else you want to know!

Deep cleanings are a type of therapeutic procedure used to halt periodontal disease and prevent it from progressing. They’re designed to reach tartar and plaque buildup deep below gum tissues inside of infected “periodontal pockets.” Unlike preventative dental cleanings, these scaling and root planing treatments are focused on areas of infection using special instrumentation or technology.

Most deep cleanings consist of cleaning one quadrant (1/4) of your mouth at a time, scheduling 1-2 quadrants per appointment. It’s common to have half of your mouth cleaned during one deep cleaning procedure and the other half cleaned at a separate visit 1-2 weeks later.

I feel like deep cleaning should be covered as preventative care at 100% along with crowns.

Had my first deep cleaning today and it was absolutely painless. My dentist even me several times to raise my hand if I need a short break.. but there’s literally no pain. Turning 27 this year and had no bone loss which I was most worried about. But everyone - stay on top of your teeth! Just after the one side getting done, the difference feels night and day.

Will be getting my deep cleaning done the first week of January 2023. Lesson learned after not keeping up with appointments due to life issues. Actually, I'm looking forward to this. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explain this and how to prepare. Thank 😊

So. Had mine today. I should not have read reviews because my anxiety was through the roof.. Guys. This does not hurt. Im a wimp with dentistry. Most painful part was the numbing injections. My lovely dentist put numbing gel on prior so the needles were not as bad. Anyways. When she said ok were done I was like Couldnt believe I'd worked myself up over peoples reviews...So im still numb at the moment and expecting to be a little sore but please dont be nervous.... Get numbed up 💉

I love the way you talk, it's so engaging and exciting.
I have my first deep cleaning and cavity filling ever and I'm so nervous. I was never this nervous for my wisdom teeth extractions.

I have significant dental trauma and didn't have health insurance until I got it through foster care, so I always neglected my dental care until recently and I was really worried because almost all of my teeth have fillings and my gums are really high up, but this video really comforted me and I just booked an appointment with a new dentist! Thank you!

I was definitely sore for a few days, but I also had some pretty significant buildup above the gumline (thanks depression!) and they had to clean my mouth in four sessions. Most people probably won't be that bad. They also did laser treatment on my gums when they were finished to make sure all the bacteria was gone, which was just a little tickly/itchy.

Proper home care and dental cleanings are so important to me cuz I want to do my best to save all my natural teeth for as long as I can just like I’m sure most everyone else would like to
Thank you for taking your time to make these videos

Thank you. It’s scary going in when it’s been years since your last appointment. It took years to become brave enough to return again.

I love your videos! I finished an SRP last week and have been spending a lot of time learning better ways to take care of my gums now that they’re on the mend. I had good hygiene habits but technique needed some work. Thanks to your videos, a tongue scraper is on the way 😂
