Tsar Bomba, Soviet thermonuclear bomb that was detonated in a test over Novaya Zemlya island in the Arctic Ocean on October 30, 1961. The largest nuclear weapon ever set off, it produced the most powerful human-made explosion ever recorded.

The tsar bomba actually had a 3 core design which wouldve brought it up to a 100 megaton weapon

The 50megaton warhead is cool but impractical. It’s much more effective to have one missile that launches 10 individual guided warheads that are 5megatons each.

This bomb, the 'Tsar Bomba' was originally going to be of 100 megaton capacity. However, the mushroom cloud can only go so high. There was no reason to create a bomb whose cloud could go higher as it wouldn't. Cloud height was limited by our atmosphere. There was no use of making it more energetic than 50 megaton.

Teller design can go as big as you want but it was better to have multiple bombs of 1.2 megatons to destroy more with multiple points of impact
