Great video for managing expectations (and time) around foam rolling. Thanks for removing the guilt I was feeling over not spending several minutes at a time on trouble spots!

I like to use foam rolling in combination with static stretching. Of Course as you mentioned dynamic stretching before a workout is definitely recommended by me to my clients. I like to think of foam rolling as a bandaid but when used in combination with activating under active muscles it can have long term benefits.

I started foam rolling for about 5 minutes before my workouts and it's been great! Haven't had shoulder pain since I got in the habit! Great video guys!

Yay! Thanks for this. I really don't like how foam rolling feels after the minute mark anyway. This just validated me so much 💕😂

I've tried foamrolling at night, especially the back, and I've realized that it actually keeps me awake! The activation is actually quite extreme. Takes me 1-2 hours to just fall asleep, where I usually only need about 30min or so.

I think the results are due to increased awareness in the brain to that area of the body, I feel most people use to much pressure. I can get as much benefit from using a dry scrub brush and just stimulate the skin receptors.

Wow I never knew it had a name or was medically studied, but I guess its D.O.M.S. ive been dealing with lately. Actually, I think ive dealt with this for years but recently changed up my exercise routine and its much worse now... I deal with the phenomena of most muscle soreness onset 2 even 3 days after a workout, especially after leg days, and no one ive asked really knows what Im talking about. It really screws with a weekly workout routine. Its nice to put a name to it so I can do more of my own research!
Ive never really incorporated foam rolling into my stretching regimen. I naively thought it was more gimmick and time waste over regular stretching. Anything I can do to minimize this problem and hit the gym more frequently! Thank you for the information Dr Aaron and Graham!

At the end you recommend a cross fiber release. I’m a massage therapist and do cross fiber friction and get results that last longer than 5-10 min of increased range of motion. I’m curious why it wouldn’t be the same, like when someone uses a Gua sha tool, it’s presumably lighter than a foam roller for the most part.

I use rolling in areas I've found knots in my calf where I'd otherwise feel discomfort. Short of removing these knots, rolling helps.

What about foam rolling for muscle knots? Can foam rolling get rid of them alone or should I combine it with exercises?

A squat university vid, first at all thumb up and then I watch the video

For DOMS should it be done before or after exercise?

So would you get added benefits if you foamroll + warm up in that 10-30 min window? Is there studies on that available?

I use foam rollers as a sort of massage.
Are there other superior practices for self-treatment?

Love this.. Very straightforward and informative. I am thankful the bald guy keeps his shirt off in this video. Just saying… Makes it all more professional.
