When The Modders Did Greater Than Grove Street Games

Well, we also have to consider the fact that GTA SA DE is made on Unreal Engine 4, but the modders only had the original 2004 GTA SA game engine to work with...

If I design a game and decide to make a remaster I definitely hire modders.

It's shame to think how good grove streets' remaster could have been

There are few things I would give to defective edition like car reflection on rainy day. It just looks better, mod it bit too shiny. But generally, as mod is still under development, Ill overlook that and call mod winner for me.

This just shows that a fan with no deadlines and genuine love for a project can do way better than a small team of devs forced to rush out a half assed product by a bigger parent company.

There's bits of the DE I prefer in this video though. And for me being able to just play SA again on modern hardware without the ballache of modding an oldass game is nice.

All that said, what this modder is doing with GTASA is very impressive, especially given they're working in the old game engine!

The lighting is just much better in definitive edition, although that flying scene and weather effects are something else in the modder version. Imagine combining the two.

I think you can make a case for either one. The water, clouds, and weather effect look fantastic on the mod, many times better than the remaster. The reflections are also impressive, but they're probably quite expensive even if they are only screen space and not raytraced. The roads in the rain are also very excessive in their reflectivity, like your average GTA V mod. The colors look quite muted in the mod as well compared to the remaster, and also appear way too dark in the new cloudy weather. The saturation is definitely a matter of taste and the remaster's dark lighting is very problematic as well, but I find myself preferring Rockstar's version. The fog is also way to harsh for my liking, but I get that most GTA fans disagree. I would like it to be a bit more gradual than it is now and show a farther area. As it is now it is still very obvious that it is there for culling purposes instead of looking more natural. The motion blur seems way better in the remaster, even if it is less immersive, the mod's is very impractical in every way in addition to the janky wobbling effect. My opinion is that Definitive Edition is much more playable and authentic, but the mod is more impressive, especially in video form.

Now if the mod can be ported to the Definitive Edition, we'll get the best of both worlds. We'll have the higher poly models with proper shaders applied, combined with the better lighting and clouds from the mod. Not to mention that it'll be easier to port to III and VC.

Also I'm not sure what is up with the rain puddles in the Definitive Edition. I've noticed they're there sometimes, and not other times in all 3 games.

Modders should be given money or a job in a game company for there countless hours of hard work.

Things which can never be stopped!
1. Airplanes in GTA Vice city
2. Train in all GTA games
3. Time

Honestly this whole drama made me appreciate OG graphics with HD mod even more. They were tailored for low specs at the time, everything looks old but super consistent. Not to mention that after enabling HD 1080p I just feel like I could be playing modern game but with some low polygon artstyle decisions made. Looking at pixelated, huge moon while night driving empty San Fierro just hits different

IMO graphics improvements fail to replicate the feeling and artistic vision of OG graphics.

I like how unbiased this was. But honestly, the DE is clearly more polished.

And from the comments, I can tell very few people actually tried the game. On PC specifically, rain puddles and fog are in the game. And it's stunning on that platform. Unfortunately, maybe console versions do suck.

1:21 how the clouds in the skybox meet up to the edge of the water just looks so unnatural to me.

I'll always prefer to keep the way it is. Good old graphics. The game still looks good to this especially on PC.
