What would you do if you'd started at the other side? That deer spawns were so bad, I can't think of any way to secure them without having to spend a massive amount of wood to wall. Such big wall is also very prone to getting destroyed.

yeah instead of throwing scissors at scissors you gotta use a bit of rock with your scissors. In a French mirror let him rush as you turtle a bit and then capitalise and leverage the advantages that presents like you did in this game.
