I’m Vincent Racaniello, Earth’s Virology Professor.

I’m also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. I’ve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this YouTube channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.

Dr John Campbell provides a reasonable summary of what’s going on which he pulls from good sources, which is why people like him. It’s simple.

However, since he started pushing Ivermectin I’ve gone off him, especially since he was very harsh on those debunking the IVM studies that falsely claimed that it worked - and have now been withdrawn

Amy your input is very valuable and I love the candor with which you answer questions. My only issue is that you respond to questions from random people like they are idiots that don't understand the depth that you do. That's the whole point of this channel/podcast. Please try to respond to people who are trying to learn and may just be getting bad information from the media with a little more understanding. There's no need to belittle people who aren't in the industry for not having your level of understanding.

50:33 I have a correction for Amy. In my med school injection lab, we jabbed each other with needles and saline. Zero soreness the next day as opposed to vaccines which get sore on me.

Only limitations are: we are students so perhaps our technique wasn't perfect, and I think our needles were slightly short

I would say the Delta subvariants i.e. AY 4.2 are of interest because the RNA variant analysts are finding a pattern that indicates that they are fitter than Delta, and may become the dominant subvariant within months, at least in Denmark and the UK, whose labs respectively analyse 100% of positive PCRs and 10% of positives in their own countries. Any putative future VOCs and VUIs will most likely be descendants of the fittest subvariants. For Amy: There are Virologists like you and Epidemiologists such as those analysing variants. Never the twain should meet, since they are considering different problems. Both are important for understanding this pandemic, and for future pandemic threats.

I was vaccinated with the Sinovac CoronaVac in Turkey. One month between initial doses and then a booster shot after five months. My doctor advised the booster as I am over 60 and have asthma and heart condition.
My step sons who are in their 30s have both had two doses of the Moderna/BioNTech vaccine.

If one assumes that “severe” means you need hospitalization, and all other symptomatic cases are “mild”, “mild” covers a LOT of territory from the point of view of the patients, from truly mild to hellish re kind of, quantity, and degree/strength of symptoms.
