Why Fruit Flies Are So Hard To Kill

Come summertime, fruit flies arrive in droves. They’re drawn in by the smell of fruit — and by the fungi and other microorganisms that produce rot. Once they land on apples, bananas, and whatever else they can find, they lay hundreds of eggs that hatch into hundreds of maggots, which then pupate into flies. So how can you get rid of them? Make a trap, or just clean up.

You know why they are so hard to kill?? Because they perceive time at a different speed and from their perspective everything is in slow motion. So no matter how fast you think you are, you are slow.

My house is very clean, but living in a rural area, sometimes a fly gets into my home... The issue? That I have every window of my home tapered with mesh cloth to avoid mosquitoes, so the flies can't escape, and (I don't know why, maybe because of the lack of food or the temperatures) they start flying around like crazy and trying to walk over my face.... Really irritating.
So I have mastered the art of killing flies lol, every once in a while, when a fly gets stuck in my home, I use some kind of cold spray, like deodorant or freshener, and spray the fly! They won't escape because they won't know where is the attack coming from! And after a second they won't be able to fly because of the cold and wetness, and you can easily strike ... So now you got rid of a pesky fly and your room smells nice :D double win

I remember the first time I ever saw a fruit fly in my house and that was 5 years ago; they must have made a colony or something because, even in the winter, I can always find one flying around.

Here's my trap that works awesome:

3/4th vinegar
3/4th wine
Water to fill jar
*Soap*

And then stir and leave it. The soap breaks water tension and even if they touch it once they'll be trapped

If they are by you just spray them down with air freshener lmao it works well and saves you energy. Don't do that if you're by aquariums though air freshener is deadly to fish

Its easy to kill them with a flamethrower.

Homemade fruit fly traps work too. Set some apple cider vinegar in a beaker, create a funnel just small enough for the fruit fly, then set in the beaker and make sure it's air tight. It's super effective

They're also attracted to light. I use KATCHY fly catcher. I uses an ultraviolet LED and USB fan. The light attracts the fruit flies and then fan sucks them into the trap. I have two of these and they keep the population at bay.

I rarely see fruit flies

Probably because I don’t eat fruit

Over the summer I had a few fruit flies in my house before my vacation and when I came back there was a whole population of them just chilling. I was so scared in my own home that I was ready to let the fruit flies take over and just dip.
