Ik red coloring isn't the greatest. I do however use it for the cake since it gives it its best color. Other than that I appreciate the feedback you guys gave. 🦍

Originally it was traditionally red and never had food coloring because vinegar mixing with the cocoa causes the cocoa to turn red. It wasn’t until much later food coloring was added.

When i was in culinary school we used beetroot to give it that vivid red color and it added to the sweet flavours surprisingly well, highly recommended

Honestly I usually love red velvet cause it’s basically chocolate cake and almost always has cream cheese frosting (the best frosting), and they tend to be a moist cake

So in the original recipes, it used natural cocoa powder that interacted with the other ingredients and made a nice deep red hue. I haven't been able to replicate it yet but that's just from lack of ingredients 😅

I’m from the south. It’s red because back during the war when we had sugar rations, they used beets because they are sweet. So you can use beets or just the juice from the can. Mixed with the cocoa and vanilla that’s what makes it red velvet.

A local boutiquel bakery makes red velvet, but it's their buttercream that makes it all work, it's by a mile my literal favorite cake out of all.
