I'm teaching a drawing class starting in January! I think I might have to put links to your series in their Webclass.

I also think the same way about smudging, I rarely do it xD really awesome video, I will definitely use those I don't already use! Keep up! I love your videos, you're my biggest inspiration :D

Thank you SO much Mary for making these videos. I had an amazing teacher my freshman year of high school that was teaching us similar techniques but he passed away unexpectedly and was replaced by a man who was too concentrated on winning contests than teaching us actual skills. So i thank you for bringing me back to this amazingness! :)

I've been drawing all my life and have had all kinds of teachers with all kinds of crazy techniques. And they all had a different view on what basics were actually important. So you can imagine I get super confused and stuck sometimes. Especially when I have to draw something rather realistic. Your tutorials are EXTREMELY helpful!!! Thank you so much Mary!

I kinda do a mix of pressure on the paper and smudging. Which seems to work well. I like to find what I think would be the darkest part in the drawing and after I finish I smudge it from there. It is a technique I like to do and always if I need to add more I will go over it with my pencil/graphite stick.

Thanks so much. I am an art teacher and really enjoyed this art lesson with 90 of my kids in grade 3 Melbourne Australia. Some of them said they would subscribe because they liked your delivery.

You'd make a great teacher. None of my art teachers in high school didn't teach things like this. They were more concerned about the Harrison line, and keeping students that were in there for an easy A under control. I had to learn most of this on my own. It's nice to see that I'm doing most things right. :)
