Those soft shell from Japan had their shells paper then start to harden. They weren’t soft shells anymore by the time you got them lol

"I'm actually from Maryland" nobody but us would make a crab tier list, I guessed as much. My man! 🦀

I hope you have a shrimp video planned. Because I'd love to know your opinion on grocery store. Easy peel shrimp

I live in northwest Washington and I commercial fished crab in Alaska for one season. I have to say that Dungeness crab is my favorite after eating all the west coast crab you tried.

I grew up in the mid Atlantic, Delaware and Virginia, so I'm a blue crab fan and scrapple!

Gotta agree on the Maryland Blue crab. That's after 30 years on the Gulf Coast. Maryland style crab cakes are also the best.

Great video, nice editing that's straight to the point without useless mumbo jumbo. Would love to see you try invasive European green crabs. I know, tiny amounts of meat, but so curious.

I live on the Mississippi coast, where the local crab is the Blue, but with all the casinos you can get King, Snow, and Dungeness 365 days a year. We steam them if you want to eat it with butter, but most are boiled in spicy Zatarain's crab boil seasoning. If your fingers aren't on fire by the end, they're considered bland lol

Dungeness is by far my favorite. Al the dungeness crabs I've had from Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska have been equally delicious. The thing about dungeness crabs is that they are seasonal. The late season crabs from June and July are the best. They start moving into shallower water around April, and after a couple of months of that, they taste pretty damn sweet.

Thank you for mentioning the research that found that crabs feel pain! You're such a real one dude, I just became a fan times a 1000. One of the best channels on here, keep up the great work.

Fellow Marylander here, loved this video! I too am always in search of delicious crab.

I've since moved to NYC, and I've had some delicious fresh Jonah crab claws from a local Long Island fisheries farm share. Really good stuff.

But the best crab I've ever had in my life to rival blue crab though has to have been mud crab in Malaysia. If you ever get a chance, seek it out. Really flavorful and spicy, highly recommend. Also it was not cheap -- we spent around $30 per jumbo mud crab in a country that is otherwise quite affordable (e.g. $2 could get you a full meal). But those crabs are absolutely huge.

My favorite are Dungeness crabs from around Monterey Bay to San Francisco. Fresh off the boats steamed with some butter and sourdough bread can’t be beat.

Fresh vs not-fresh really skews some of these

Maine is having a green crab crisis, cratering the clam and lobster industries. They are apparently not good, though some say you can prepare them well. I would like to see such an experienced crab eater’s opinion!
