The Endocrine System

Paul Andersen explains the major elements in the endocrine system. He explains how glands produce hormones which target cells. He differentiates between water soluble and lipid soluble hormones. He then describes the hormones and actions of ten glands; pineal, anterior pituitary, posterior pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal cortex, adrenal medulla, testes and ovaries.

I really enjoy this video. High yield info here for USMLE, no doubt! If anybody is wondering, I'd say Endocrinology usually is the 3rd or 4th most popular topic tested on USMLE. The order is usually:

(1) Cardio
(2) Pulm
(3) Repro
(4) Endo
(5) Renal

I am a senior in university studying for the GRE Biology exam. Of course I don't specialize in all areas of biology and so Bozeman videos have seriously helped me fill in the gaps from courses I have not taken. Never underestimate the power of basic understanding! Bozeman videos and Mr. Andersen helped me through the AP biology exam four years ago and here I am back for the GRE to get a PhD in molecular biology!! I think A key aspect to give a bit more info to something that is REALLY important is: The Posterior pituitary gland is *NOT* the creator of oxytocin and ADH. 1.) The hypothalamus is in charge of *producing* the oxytocin and the anti-diuretic hormone. posterior pituitary gland is in charge of the *RELEASE* of those two hormones. Remeber: the hypothalamus is a major contributor to the control of the pituitary(anterior and posterior). Thats why they have things liks TRH(thyroid release hormone), and such. Ex: hypothalamus triggers TRH> Anterior pituitary gets the signal and triggers TSH(thyroid stimulating hormone)>thyroid gland is then stimulated>release of TH(thyroid hormone)-T4, T3, calcitonin
